When Watanuki looks back on his memories, he doesn’t think of much.
He remembers the consuming vacuum of grief when his parents died.
He recalls the long, empty afternoons staring up at the ceiling in his noiseless apartment, the room growing dark as the sun fell across the sky and still he couldn’t move to turn on his light.
Mostly, he remembers the terrible loneliness.
But today, he looks forward to busy afternoons working at Yuuko’s shop, mornings of waking up early to make bentous for that jerk Doumeki, school days spent fawning over Himawari.
And slowly, he feels the gulf in his heart close.
