Having a cable connection is absolutely amazing in comparison to years of dial-up that I have grown accustomed to, that's why it's especially craptastic to have it stop working for the past few days. Good tip for everyone out there: DON'T try to "fix" a cable problem of any type unless you know what you are doing and this goes double for brothers who think that they do. I have gone back over my brother's work to at least get it working sporadically now instead of just not at all until the cable guys come to fix everything, which overall really isn't such a big deal since they needed to come by to fix the rest of the problems anyway.
Sadly this year I won't be wearing a costume for Halloween other than my normal gruesome visage. I was going to be Bender/Flexo the robot and drew up some spiffy plans along with a list of parts and material needed but now it is too late to build and I am too poor at the moment to buy everything I would have needed anyway. My back up costume was going to be a down on his luck and much older Harry Potter, who is no longer a big celebrity but instead is only occasionally seen on the game show circuit or infomercials (think Bonaduce or Gary Coleman). No longer a great wizard, his hopes are now to one day appear on a reality TV show that could bring him back into the spotlight, to get the Weasley family to speak to him again so he can apologize for his "pixie-dust" days that they tried to help him through, and to turn back time and prevent the now infamous quiditch tragedy that made him the man he is today. The problem with this costume, besides being pretty depressing now that I think about it, is that I own no scarves or sweater-vests or really anything with the right color scheme and don't especially care to dye my hair and beard black to look the part, if I was going to do that there is about 20 other costumes I could do instead and about 100 times better. No sense in doing something if it can't be done right, so no costume for me this year.
Before my connection started acting retarded I downloaded "Ju On, the Grudge" and finally watched it yesterday. If the U.S. remake is half as creepy as the original then we have a winner on our hands. I usually never get this creeped out by movies but this one had/has me paranoid and constantly looking under things and in closets for that damn cat kid, but then again I have a better reason than most to be spooked. Remember when I wrote this place had a good feel to it and didn't appear strange or spooky? Well, that type of thing tends to change when the layout of your home almost EXACTLY matches the one in the movie, and I am talking same stairway with the same type of bars for the cat-kid to look through at the top and room with attic that is an exact replica of the film's at the top of them. Throw in the discovery of old children's things like a shoe that a 7-year-old would wear laying around in the attic and see if you don't begin to wonder about the real reason why the former resident's belongings are still here. Needless to say, Chris hasn't slept upstairs in his room since, and he hasn't even seen the movie.
It looks like our first real party is going to be put off a while until we can get the house up to snuff. We all think it best to have everything completed so as to have maximum impact on visitors so as to make a memorable time, that and all of the arcade machines need work so as to earn enough to offset any expenses and buy us quesadias. That doesn't mean we won't be having any get togethers or anything, it just means the first 100+ shin-dig is going to most likely end up on New Year's Eve. So nope, no giant party here for Halloween this year unfortunately, just the usual suspects and some seasonal mischief......and creepy cat kids.
