Langerado Part 1

Mar 12, 2008 15:19

Alright what follows is the result of my weekend at langerado music festival, it's alot of pictures so i was forced to cut it... or else your page would be crazy, so if your ready i shall take you along while i recount all the events that occured.

Okay so thursday morning i grab all my shit pack it in my car and was off, got there in less then an hour... well when i say there... i mean there in 8 miles of traffic.

Yes, people got out of there cars smoked drugs, set up chairs, and drank beer. Thats how long we were stuck there. I made nice friends with the 3 guys in the explorer

Anyways, after 3 hours of traffic i get into the park after a very through search from security (the asked if i had anything, i said no, so they waved me on...) I get to the field of tents, the massive... miles... of tents, more then i had ever seen in my life.

I had arrived at the hippie capital of the universe.

they played in that drum circle for atleast 11 hours. If i had to do that for 11 hours... id off myself.

they even had a Didgeridoo

Okay so onto the music, first band I watched was on this stage...

Unfortunetly i dont have any pictures of that performance because... it was POURNING THE ENTIRE TIME, in fact, it rained the entire time i put my tent up, which led to me sleeping in the wet... and the cold for 3 nights. Which resluted in me having a rather nasty bug which is effecting me as i type.

Regardless the band was called The Palominos

This is a picture of them... the only one i could find, i didnt take it, aparently they won the contest to open the festival, unfortunetly there were only about 20 people around while they were playing in the rain. Regardless at the expense at one of there amps which became overwhelmed with the water they rocked a great show and set a good tone for the rest of the festivities.

Luckily the rain stopped just a few minutes before the bass god himself came on stage.

Les Claypool

The man played a stick with a string on it and made some of the best sounds i've ever heard with my ears. If anyone, anywhere, ever thinks they can play bass as good as this man, i will punch them square in the teeth. He played only with himself a drummer, a keyboardist, and a saxaphone player, who sounded just like a lead guitar strangly enough. Regadless it was an amazing show. He closed by saying he wanted to find a gator and wrassle it.

Thursday Summation: Lots of rain, little music, soaked bedding, but i was still excited as all hell just to be there.

Next morning im walking into the concert area (which mind you is almost 2 miles from my tent) and what do i see? Dude fighting a gator, of course i had to check it out.

(unfortunetly it was not claypool)

Soon after getting off the gator, the large reptile decided he wanted to try and break the mans leg, but luckily the mans rather large beer belly didnt stop his nimble feet from saving him from becoming food.

not food for the small gator he was wrestling, but for the 15 foot one hiding in the water. Yes... 15 fucking feet long.

Anyways first band up that day was american bang, little rock band, quite energetic for being visably hung over.

Second up that day was matt pond PA, who first wowed me with there impressive spread of 7 of the most beautiful guitars id ever seen, and then proceded to put on a good show, not great, but atleast conneced with the audience. It got so informal that the lead singer actually sat on the edge of the stage and drank whisky from one of his audience members smuggled flasks.

Next was the walkmen, who i was very much looking forward to and got to see front row which made me happy, they gave a great performance musically, but lacked in the showmanship. But then again the lead singer sang with such force it looked as if his head would explode, just part of there charm. There drummer also resembles animal from the muppets when he plays. And he tended to not use drum sticks rather he prefered random objects, such as a marraca, a stick, and best of all his own shoe.

Later that evening was 311, who always puts on a great show and by far had the most energetic crowd, not the biggest, but they got people into it. Not to say there wasnt 3,000 people behind me but still, not the biggest crowd.

I then tried to see the roots... who were the only band i saw that was late, and they were... 45 min late... bastards, because of that not only did i not get to see them at all, but it made me late for built to spill, which was an awesome concert, but blew because i was so far back.

Lastly was the beastie boys. Okay started good, in fact started great... however then they went straight instrumental and lost the audience for a good 40 min, one concerned fan screamed "PLEASE PLAY INTERGALACTIC" to which he was answered, we'll get there, we want you to get the full effect... whatever that means. Anyways they took a siesta about an hour in came back and then continued rocking the shit, starting there second set with intergalactic.

Bad picture but i really just want to see those dreads.

Friday Summation: Most bands i REALLY wanted to see packed together, was my favorite day, plus an old guy gave me acid, so... cant go wrong there right?

Okay that's all for right now, I shall update part two within the nexty day or so. To be continued with day 3 and 4.
