what a week!

What a week indeed!

I had a student telling me he hates me and doesn't want to be in my class.

I lost a temper with the said student and shouted at him to get out of the class. Now, this would have been allright. However, one of my colleagues saw and heard me as he was standing just outside my class! Argh! I must've came across as undignified. How embarrassing and unprofessional!

There was a clash among the factions of students (Read between the lines people! There's only one word that we can use to describe these factions) at school. I won't update this here.

Actually, there are lots more to add to the above but I guess some things are better left censored out of the public space.

Before I end, let me just state that I hope and pray so much that the following will happen:

1. I won't lose my temper at my students again.
2. I will scream less at my students.

It's not because I was caught in action by my colleague while I was doing these things that has made come up with these resolutions. Rather, it stemmed more from my reflection of my behaviour in class.

I was thinking through my actions when I managed my classes and realized that my reactions to the kids' misbehaviour were totally wrong at times. For instance as an adult, I should be the one showing the kids how one could manage their anger. If I myself couldn't even control my temper  in class,  who am I to preach to the students to practice anger management?

Also, for the screaming part... Why should I even scream at them? True, they might have greatly deserved it but still, it was a totally unwarranted reaction on my part. Furthermore, I've never been an ardent fan of screaming at students. Ironically, I'm doing something which I've never agreed that teachers should do. Terrible!

So in a nutshell, no losing of temper and no screaming at students in class anymore.
