i swear, i mean to keep this thing more updated...

everythings good here!

rome adventure was... an adventure. pics are on facebook! 8 of us study abroad kids went. --not having seats on the train ride there meant standing the entire way to rome. we didnt have anywhere for 5 of us to stay- the old, non-english-speaking man at the hotel was really strict. imagine sneaking 5 people into a teeny hotel when the owner buzzes you in and out EVERY time you use the front door. but the sights were so beautiful.... the trevi fountain was my favorite!! we got up early saturday and saw the coliseum, the roman forum (all the old relics from the roman empire), the pantheon, all sorts of neat things. we wended up leaving late saturday night to avoid having to find lodging for the night. we took a super sketchy overnight train back to lugano- so we were in rome for less than 30 hours, lol.

other thoughts on  l u g a n o:
  • the weather here is beautiful- sometimes cold but sometimes warm and sunny. some days you cant even see the mountains its so foggy. other times, the clouds are super thick in the valleys between mountains
  • um, mountains?  all by themselves, they deserve a bullet point.  it snowed recently, so theres snow on the tops... sooo beautiful.  i wish my photos would do them justice
  • the tap water here is perfect!  i drink lots of water, which is about the only healthy thing i do here
  • i went to dinner with some neighbors the other night for alejandras birthday.  holy delicious margaritas.  seriously, these might be holy, theyre that good.   and its good to break out of the "study abroad" group of friends- theyre great, but its so easy to segregate ourselves.  and thats no fun!
  • i love having a kitchen, but man grocery shopping is expensive.
  • i made an omelette that didnt look like a mess!
  • applied for an assistantship, but didnt get it :(  its probably better anyways-- plus, i wasnt expecting to get it: why would they choose a study abroad over a regular student?
  • i've got some big ideas for a project back at NU- check out www.invisiblechildren.com .   it will probably break your heart.  but, when you realize you can do something to help.... its a pretty good feeling.  my brain hasn't stopped moving in days.  anyone want to help?
  • speaking of NU, i sent in my RC application the other day.  hurrah!
  • was supposed to go to munich this weekend- oops, i have a student assembly thing.  postponed for the next weekend!
  • i went to the ponte tresa market on saturday- what a beautiful day!  i go to italy to grocery shop.  seriously, who does that?  :)
  • i really adore my friends here :)
  • i wish you guys could come visit.  i want to share this crazy place <3
