The Jack Harkness who enters the Nexus this particular evening looks like he's seen better days, to be honest. It's a combination of stress and very little sleep, which might be inferred by the dark circles under his eyes and the venti cup of Starbucks in his hand, combined with the lackluster way he settles back onto one of the Convenient Nexus ( Read more... )

If there's one thing - person - that Ianto Jones has a weakness for, it's Jack Harkness. On his way through the Nexus for no particular reason other than the fact that he occasionally does pass through, Ianto settles down on a chair nearby.

"For one thing," he notes, "as much as I'd love coffee, I'd recommend against drinking it while trying to relax."

At this particular point in his rather crappy weak, Jack only dignify Ianto Jones with a response because this is obviously not the Ianto Jones that he knows and, very recently, broke off things with. He smirks a little, glancing down at his Starbucks cup. "Yeah, tell me about it. This is more to stay awake than anything."

Ianto breathes a quiet laugh. "... why do you want to stay awake if you're trying to relax?" he wonders, raising his eyebrows. "You should try getting some sleep. It really is the best medicine."

"New baby," Jack says with a slow exhale of breath one might tentatively call a sigh. "Up in the middle of the night, that sort of thing. I work ... more than fulltime, actually, so that makes it a little difficult to get as much sleep as I'd like."

"I putter around in the garage." Which is what he's been doing today. It's why he smells of oil and sawdust.

"Putter around the garage?" Jack asks, raising an eyebrow. "Doing what? I mean, I like tools and all, but there's only so much you can do without a hobby?"

"I tend to, uh, build things that usually don't work." This is not entirely true. Sebastian's bizarrely tinkered vacuums and blenders tend to settle into cheap, entertaining toy cars on a regular basis.

This, at least, gets a soft laugh out of the tired looking man. "Sounds like fun, though. What do you build?" Apart from things that don't work, he means.

"Well, I wouldn't be drinking that stuff," Rhodri says, indicating the coffee. He's got a travel mug, "I always relaxed when I was taking care of my sugar gliders."

"Trying to stay awake," Jack answers, rubbing at one eye in an effort to wake up a little more. "I haven't slept properly since last Sunday." He pauses, trying to figure out if sugar gliders are a normal sort of pet. "I've got a dog, but I think I'm going to lose her in the break-up. What're sugar gliders like as pets?"

"There has to be a better way than that," Rhodri replies, sitting down on the opposite end of the couch. "Depends what century you're in, but for the most part they're needy and can die if they don't have some affection."

"Caffeine is the only solution. New baby's keeping me up all night." He shrugs a little, then has a sip of his coffee. "Sounds like most living things, though. Dogs, cats, humans. Though I guess fish don't need affection, from a certain perspective."

"Could do," he figures, shrugging a little. It sort of reminds him of Ianto, who used to go out for a run when he needed to think, but whatever. "Heh, well, I don't think Ben and Jerry's would be great for my muffin top, but a stupid movie might work. Any recommendations?"

"Sometimes they do. My daughter makes me watch the usual chick flick romcoms a lot. I complain, then secretly enjoy them." Or not so secretly.

I watch this one movie, and it tends to help.

Oh, it's... a really obscure one. You know, small art house kinda stuff.

But! Have you ever seen The Invisible Circus? That's a good one.

I used to love films like that. You know, French artsy stuff. Very ... fucking with your head sort of artistic.

Never seen that one, though. Maybe I should give it a look.
