Ianto looks stressed as he comes in, making sure that the couch is vacant before dropping into it. He sighs, glancing around the Nexus, looking somewhat defeated

"How old, exactly? I have on on good authority that once a girl reaches the age of sixteen she immediately becomes a space alien and can no longer be related to in human terms." Emily grins hugely. And not just because she'll be sixteen in ten days and it's her Dad who said that!
Emily is still smiling. She can't help it. Birthday!
"Dad has always said that boys are easier to raise than girls." She shrugs. "You are working against a handicap already, anyway. If she's pregnant, you're not dealing with an entirely rational mind. Did you actually apologize for the making an ass of yourself thing?"
Ianto glowers at him, because he can hear the sarcasm in John's voice.
"We just had her baby shower," Ianto informs him. Ianto didn't plan it, his sister did. He also spent more time running around playing host than he did participating in the shower events, so that Jack could.
"Yeah, but that was for the baby," John speaks slowly, since it seems rather obvious to him. "The party has to be for her. Might I suggest something with Karaoke?"
Watch out Ianto, he'll be offering you a copy of his Birthday Party Karaoke DVD next.
Ianto glares daggers at that. "Why the hell would I plan a party where people can massacre perfectly good songs?" Ianto didn't like karaoke to begin with and he's recently lost a night of work, so they can have Karaoke Night. Needless to say suggesting karaoke was not a good idea.
Oh, hey, it's another Ianto rolling through, this one looking smart in a twenty-third century suit and carrying a cup of coffee. He pauses when he sees his considerably scruffier looking alternate (at least, he guesses it's an alternate; might just be some bloke who looks like him, especially given just how scruffy he looks ... then again, Ianto himself had gotten pretty scruffy during their stint in America).
"Don't over do it," Ianto offers as advice. "It will seem insincere and make it look as if you're only trying to make her think that you like her."
"Apparently, I've come no where near overdoing. At least according to another sixteen year old," Ianto informs him. "She thinks I should spend more time with her, just me and her."
Ianto squints, staring skyward for a moment in contemplation. When he looks back to his alternate, he shakes his head. "No, too much time alone with her would be sort of ... creepy. You don't want to be like the skeevy uncle."
Because, let's face it ... being the lover who's not that much older than the child in question rules out any real, serious feelings of parenting that might actually get attached to the relationship.
"I think the last time I spent any long periods of time alone with her was when I took her shopping, when she moved in," Ianto explains. "Jack and I had the same schedule, so on our days off, it would be the three of us, so I haven't spent much time with her alone. Just a couple hours here and there when Jack is running errands."
"Sit down and talk to her. Contrary to popular belief teenagers aren't from other planets and can be rational. Now I don't know how rational she's going to be while pregnant, but it wouldn't hurt to try to talk to her. Tell her how you feel about the situation and tell her how you feel about her."
"It's amazing what can be sorted out when people talk to each other," Anya says. "I know teenagers are difficult, I'm not an exception, but we can and do listen to reason and things when people talk to us." She thinks for a moment. "Perhaps neutral ground? Say dinner out some place? Sometimes talks need to take place outside of the house. At least in my crazy family they do."
"Yeah, another girl suggested I spend some time alone with her to get to know her." He pauses considering it. "I've got Wednesdays off now, so that would probably be a good night to do it then."

"Jack with a daugther? Really?" He chuckles. "And you making an arse of yourself, I can't imagine."
But he should at least try to help the man he supposes. "Throw her a party or something, that usually tells a person they're liked."
