oh, you heard me.

Ring, ring, ring.

What's that sound? That, my dear Nexus-goers, is the sound of your PINpoints, mobiles, rotary phones, phone booths, and other various communication devices ringing. Or buzzing. Or whatever it is that they happen to do.

do you answer? )

Koschei is the owner of a newly-acquired (relatively speaking) PINpoint, and, oh wow, he hasn't heard it ring before! That's neat! He presses the button that's now flashing, thinking it probably will do something, and then, look! He knows that voice! Where does he know that voice from? It's--

Oh yeah! "Big-Theta!" Or one of them, at least. "Hi!" He says this while the Doctor is still rambling, so whether or not it is heard is up for debate.

Then big-Theta asks his question, and Koschei is left with an odd expression on his face. Huh. Seems that 'right' and 'right' (and also 'write' for that matter) are completely different words in Gallifreyan. Match that with the fact that the Doctor didn't have a specific meaning one way or the other behind it when he said it and the Nexus translation field being a bit dodgy when via voice-only, and you are left with one very confused Koschei.

"The opposite of what?"

"The opposite of--"

The Doctor stops short of repeating himself, apparently just now hearing the greeting. He'd chalked the return question up to reception issues, his own inquiry not being heard, but a child (by the sound of it) using his childhood nickname - well, that's something else entirely.

"'Right', the opposite of right, it's - it's a play on Earth language. Sorry, who am I speaking to?" Because with that nickname and that voice, he's got an idea, but just to be sure.

And here we have an exasperated little nearly-eight-year-old sigh. "It's Koschei." Duh.

But, moving on, there are more pressing matters at hand. "How d'you get these things to call other people? I haven't had mine for long so I dunno how every little thing on it works yet."

"Koschei? No. Koschei. Very little Koschei, from the sound of it. You snuck away to the Nexus and never told me?"

Yes, yes, alternate universes. He's teasing, and hopefully Koschei can pick up on that. Then, he abruptly switches from baffled delight to science lecture. "I'm broadcasting the signal from the TARDIS - my TARDIS. What 'these things' are you talking about? Have you got a PINpoint?"

He objects to being called 'very little', but... well, it's Theta so he can get away with slightly more. "I didn't sneak away and never tell you! I wound up here and didn't know you then and the you that's my age knows I'm here." It is, after all, where they met in the first place. Oh, silly silly Nexus, messing up time lines for everybody.

Koschei nods, but then remembers that big-Theta can't exactly hear a nod. "Yeah, I got a PINpoint. Haven't had it for a long time. You're in your TARDIS? Are all the walls still white? Cos I think you should paint something on them, maybe. It looked sorta boring once I got over the cool stuff."

That clunking sound, though Koschei can't tell, is the sound of the Doctor kicking back and resting his trainers on his very not-white console. His voice is thick with amusement and maybe a hint of nostalgia. "No, not white anymore, not for a while. Tried out a few other themes, but I've settled on coral. It's... sort of orange? Well, coral. And brown. Might change it again, I don't know. Got any suggestions?"

apparently I lied, whatever. before_thedrums May 19 2009, 09:42:03 UTC
Koschei laughs a bit before replying, very enthusiastically, "Dinosaurs! You should put a picture of a dinosaur up somewhere." Because, you see Doctor, it happens to be something of a reoccurring theme with this Koschei and his corresponding Theta to draw dinosaurs on walls that are too bland. Might have been that way in the universe this Doctor comes from as well, though Koschei would have no knowledge of that, and generally is assuming most places are rather similar to his own.

lying liar. sorry_sosorry May 19 2009, 09:54:17 UTC
"Dinosaurs," the Doctor echoes, seriously contemplating. His own Koschei never had a preference for prehistoric Earth vertebrates, but then, his own Koschei never traveled to a multiversal meeting place, either (as far as he knows). "The console room could do with a few photos on the walls, come to think of it. Though I might have a hard time finding a picture of a dinosaur. I suppose I could pop by Earth sometime during the Mesozoic Era and snap a photograph of a pterosaur or two."

"You should!" There's a flop sound as Koschei flops down on a couch, his PINpoint momentarily being trapped between sofa cushion and small boy. "Can I go too?"

Because clearly if one big-Theta is taking Koschei to random periods of Earth history, another one might as well. There could obviously be absolutely no bad ramifications from this action ever.

"Well," the Doctor begins, drawing the word out. His reluctance is feigned, of course. "I don't know. Haven't you got classes you should be going to?"

Koschei shakes his head. ....Oh, right, can't hear that. "No," he says. "Haven't started yet. Plus," he laughs a bit. "With your TARDIS you could bring me back to the same time we left anyway."

"I suppose I could, couldn't I." Disregarding his habit of completely missing his intended targets by entire decades or solar systems. "You haven't started at the Academy yet? Blimey, you are young. How old are you?"

before_thedrums May 20 2009, 04:27:13 UTC
He's not young, he's the exact age he's supposed to be. It's big-Theta who is old. Clearly. "I'm seven. Almost eight though."

"Seven-almost-eight. A very good age to be. Are you looking forward to the Academy, then?"

"Uh-huh! Almost thought I wasn't gonna get to go but then stuff got sorted out and now I am!"

A pause.

"So... you gonna take me to see dinosaurs or not?"

sorry_sosorry May 20 2009, 05:51:10 UTC
"Oh, well. That's good." A matching pause. "If you'd like to. I'm afraid I have to do a few repairs in the TARDIS, but when that's done, why not."
