Maybe an orange sort of glow precedes him, or it's just a trick of the light.

Either way, there's an Adam in the Nexus. He's doubled over, pale, shaking. His arms clutch his stomach, his head, and he stumbles to a couch to collapse onto it.

Perhaps the lights in the Nexus are on the fritz, because there's - shadows, it must be, flickering over Adam's ( Read more... )

GO AHEAD AND MINDRAEP HER. lonely_sato February 21 2009, 16:41:48 UTC

I suppose... with Mary..."

Adam's head almost snaps upright.

He opens his eyes and raises his head slowly, offering Tosh a weak smile.

"Mary?" he presses gently, patting the cushion next to him with a flickering hand.

I love to torture her. lonely_sato February 21 2009, 17:04:43 UTC
"Yes... we were together for a while. But it ended badly. Always does.
Her, Tommy, Owen."
She sits down next to him. Baaaad Tosh.

The names are more than familiar - Adam's sifted through Tosh's memories enough times to know each loss and every heartache intimately. He knows the story of Mary well, but right now he's dedicated to his role of 'understanding listener'.

"Not always, Toshiko," he says softly, slipping a hand around the back of her neck.

After Mary, he picks her up on the Plass and takes her back to her flat. He clears away the reminders - the sheets with Mary's scent, the stubs of cigarettes on the counter. He holds Tosh, listens, lets her cry - and stays.

After Tommy, they repeat the process. He clears away the sheets, turns off the news - the war footage - and holds Tosh while she cries. And stays.

Every night that Tosh needs him, Adam's there. We were going to have a drink, remember? He banishes her thoughts of Owen and for once in Tosh's life, she has someone who stays with her.God, he'd love to push himself into her memories, love to have her on top of him on this couch, right now. The sex isn't nearly as gratifying as the rush of energy he ( ... )

for grate lulz! icanhasmemories February 21 2009, 17:32:37 UTC
"Yeah?" Adam raises his head, watching with a soft expression that's almost betrayed by the intensity in his eyes. He needs more details. "Celebrating? Or just a nice date?"

Adam chuckles at the memory, like he's already sharing it. "I understand the feeling." He gestures (with his non-flickering hand - er, not that either of them are flickering) for Jacob to take a seat on the couch as well. "What's your girl like?"

Go on, but be careful with the kid, his memory is already a mess. ;) lower_case_x February 21 2009, 17:33:51 UTC
"Are you okay?" Xehanort asks, then pauses. "But... if you want to hear about things... The day Master Ansem asked me to be his apprentice... I'd dreamed about it. It was amazing to think I'd be working with and learning all these new things."

"I'm fine," Adam says reassuringly, but he doesn't look it and that's on purpose. He nods, with a smile, for Xehanort to sit. "What did Master Ansem teach you?"

lower_case_x February 21 2009, 17:58:16 UTC
"Still is teaching," he says, and takes the seat in question. "He's a great scientist. So much on how the mind works, how the heart works... everything like that."

"Yeah?" Adam's not really listening. His hand automatically drops to Xehanort's knee and - he pulls it away just as quickly, sitting back and crossing his arms. It's like quicksand in there; he could get lost and he's not taking that risk.

Great, now he has a conversation to continue. "So you're a scientist now?"

YES, PLEASE. (I'm a bad person.) not_skywalker February 21 2009, 17:49:05 UTC
"My parents," Jackson answers spontaneously, wandering closer to the couch where Adam has collapsed. He apparently missed the beginning of that entrance or he'd be more concerned. "And my little brother. Celebrating New Year. Er, Earth standard New Year. Our planet's orbit actually completes every 782 days. And the days are 32 hours long. It gets confusing."

By the way, Adam ... Jackson is a stick of a teenage boy, around seventeen, dressed in white-and-khaki attire and boots that still trail sand after two weeks in the Nexus. His goggles are now longer dusty, though, and are now perpetually pushed up into his sun-bleached hair, as there are quite a few less sandstorms in the Nexus as on Boeshane.

Oh, he has absolutely no idea what he's in for.

Trust me, I'm worse. >:3 icanhasmemories February 21 2009, 18:04:21 UTC
Holidays. Adam loves memories of holidays. So much joy. Or angst, depending on the family, and drunkenness, which makes it so easy to manipulate the memories of the event.

...oh. Oh. Adam has to hold back his grin. Boy from Boeshane. So nice to see you in person.

"I can see how it would be confusing. Here, come sit," he suggests, with a carefully-placed shy smile. "How did you celebrate?"

not_skywalker February 21 2009, 19:37:14 UTC
Oh, he's several years older than he'd been in the memory Adam was privy to, though he's not quite recovered (will he ever be?) from his father's death and Gray's ... disappearance.

Jackson accepts the invitation, because he's just a little bit gullible, coming from a backwater colony, and he genuinely believes the shy smile. "We built a bonfire on the beach and dad set off fireworks. Mom got a cake. A real cake, not protein rations with sugar frosting, and we stayed out until Gray fell asleep on my shoulder."

Oh. He's made himself sad. Jackson looks away and tries to smile, to keep from thinking about worse memories.

Adam nods sympathetically and rests his hand on Jackson's knee. He sends memories - vague, short - of Jackson and Gray together, close, brothers. So much grief in such a young man... Adam's nearly salivating at the thought of those memories. It would be so easy to slip Gray out, erase him, replace him with a kind, ginger-haired friend.

((Oh god pleasssssse can I? It's... a character study! An experiment!))

((Despite my pup's loud vocal protests, I haven't tortured him lately, so go ahead))

"A good memory? When Jack came back and all of us went out to celebrate his return," Ianto says smiling at the memory.

Eeeeexcellent. >:3 icanhasmemories February 21 2009, 18:22:17 UTC
Adam's tired, tired of pretending he has no idea what these backstabbing idiots from Torchwood are talking about. But he needs the strength, so he opens his eyes and offers a friendly smile to Ianto. Where have your black leather gloves gone, Ianto Jones? Adam misses them.

"Yeah? Where had this 'Jack' been?"

"Medical leave, he had to see a Doctor," Ianto says easily.

You're so clever, Ianto. Like Adam doesn't know exactly what Jack was up to during the Year That Never Was. The memories float through his head, clear as day.

"Oh, dear. I hope the Doctor managed to fix him?"
