Really interesting article in the TIMES
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/sport/football/premier_league/chelsea/article2512330.ece Agree completely with what it says about the United way of playing football. Loved this quote from Fergie especially :
“we will be expected to attack and we won’t disappoint anyone in that respect”.
No you certainly haven't disappointed us!
I think the author has got it spot on about each team having its own distinct philosophy regarding football. He goes on to say that Chelsea lacked that unique identity which set it apart, and that Mourinho failed to define it. I somehow don't agree. I think Chelsea are all about fighting, and I mean that in a good way. Jose instilled in them the sort of spirit which doesn't allow them to give up. Even yesterday, when they were down to 10 men it hardly seemed to affect them.
Don't get me wrong, I don't like them at all. They go too far in their desire to win at all costs. But they deserve credit for what they have acheived and what Jose has acheived with them. I don't think they'll be able to replicate this success with any other manager.
One thing I don't agree with is :
Somehow Chelsea’s players seemed more loyal to their manager than United’s to Ferguson or Arsenal’s to Arsène Wenger. It was in part a genera-tional thing - younger, cooler, Jose could have been their older brother.
Excepting Gaby Heinze, all United players are extremely loyal to Fergie!
