[Public] Häagen Dazs [Mission 101] Concerts

There is a Häagen Dazs ice cream shop on the next corner from my apartment building. I successfully resisted going there until tonight, the end of my 6th week here. I got mint chocolate chip ice cream, and when she handed me the bowl I thought for sure she had given me regular chocolate chip ice cream (with a vanilla or cream base). I decided I was ok with that, because it is also yummy, and I didn't feel like waiting around, but when I ate it, it really WAS mint. This is the first mint ice cream I have ever seen that was not green. It was super yummy, and well worth the wait.

Before eating the ice cream, I sat outside the Mariott across the pier from the Pier 6 pavilion and listened to Sublime (with Rome) do a concert. They put on a really great show and got the crowd going. They have a lot of good music here - in the last week I have also seen the Counting Crows and also saw the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra play a night of Eagles tunes. Sadly I fell asleep Thursday after work and missed B.B. King :( Before I leave to go back to Texas, I have the opportunity to see The Beach Boys (seriously!), Willie Nelson (yes!), Dave Koz (!!!!!), Heart and the Goo Goo Dolls. I'm super excited. There's also some band in there called "Slightly Stoopid" who I've never heard of and am probably not interested in based on the fact that their album has no less than 7 pot leaves on it... but eh, I might go check them out anyway. Who knows, they might become my new favorites!

And the best part is I get to listen to all these for free! They play in an outdoor theater under a giant tent. I -could- shell out money and pay for one of the seats under the tent and get to use the port-a-potties and pay too much for food... but instead, I choose to sit nearby for free (as do hundreds of other people). I've got some videos, it's pretty nice.

Regardless, there is one thing I've noticed about all these bands. They always save the songs that everyone wants to hear for last. For the Counting Crows it was Raining in Baltimore, Long December, Hangingaround... For the Eagles tunes of course Hotel California (and they actually pretended they would leave without playing it) And Sublime ended with What I Got and Santaria. I guess so fans don't just leave early after they hear those songs?
