Today I bought some shoes. Two pair.
For the longest time, I've had two sets of shoes in very similar style, one chocolate brown and one black. They were my 'staple' shoes, I wore them with just about everything. They were a little "heavy" for wearing with airy summer clothes, but otherwise i wore them with jeans or work clothes. Since I came to Baltimore, they have both become ruined in the same way - the sole of the shoe actually splits horizontally and so when I walk they go "fwop, fwop, fwop" which was super annoying. I haven't thrown them out yet though, and probably won't until i find suitable replacements, even though I'm not wearing them because the fwopping is annoying. Ok, I'm weird.
The brown shoes were a bigger problem, because the only other pair of brown shoes I own have something like 3.5 inch heels and also give me blisters even though they are cute. And I have a -lot- of brown in my wardrobe. So i went shopping with a coworker a few weeks ago and picked up a pair of brown shoes on sale that I like but aren't as multipurpose as the previous ones. They have heels also, and it turns out they don't breathe very well - on normal days they are very comfortable and I love them. But one day it was over 100 and we all went out for lunch and there was a fair amount of walking involved. It was like there was water in my shoes. And due to that, they gave me really awful blisters for the first time since I'd bought them. So i needed an alternative.
Today I went to Filene's basement. I was hoping for some replacement shoes, and also some white strappy shoes and a few blouses. I bought a pair of brown mules on sale, they do have heels, maybe 2 inches? But they are wedges... and the insides are made by Dr Schols and I can tell! They are super comfy. They were on sale for $25 so I felt really good about them. But then I saw some black mules - they were super cute with a little buckle.... and cost $60. Three times I started walking toward the register and then put them back... and then went back and got them. Finally I decided what the hell, I like them, they are cute... and I could probably wear them with jeans even though they have a bit of a heel as well (also probably 2 inches). Even though i really didn't need them because I already -have- a pair of black mules.
Maybe i'll return them and save the $60 :(
