This Is How It Continues...

If you're interested in reading the following politcal rant by an Irishman about the state of affairs of his homeland, go here (http://www.livejournal.com/users/deafmaestro/23264.html ) for Part One.

Now for Part Two...

There was another article written in the same paper two days later. My own comments about the contents of this article can be found in standard font while the article itself is in italics.

McDowell refutes CIA interrogation claims
By Harry McGee, Political Editor

-----

I'd have come up with a much better title for this article:

"McDOWELL ATTEMPTS TO COVER HIS OWN ASS AND ASSUAGES THE FEARS OF NOBODY!"

All this means to me is that the Garda (for those who don't know, those are the local cops, all ultimately under English authority, BTW) are given their orders by the higher-ups - be they the English-controlled Irish government or by the United States. *THEN* they violate your rights and freedom.

But it's okay, 'cause they're just *local* beatings, unlawful inprisonments, and murders instead of international ones, right?

-----

JUSTICE Minister Michael McDowell yesterday rejected an assertion that CIA operatives would have the power to come to Ireland to interrogate people in secret.

As the Irish Human Rights Commission (IHRC) confirmed it intends to examine the Agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance between the US and Ireland, Mr McDowell issued a detailed and emphatic rebuttal of yesterdays article in the Irish Examiner.

The agreement, signed by Mr McDowell and US Ambassador James Kenny last week, will give both countries extensive powers to discover documents, conduct searches and search bank accounts in each others jurisdiction.

Under its terms, US law-enforcement agencies, including the FBI, will be allowed to have questions put to witnesses and suspects resident in Ireland as part of investigations or criminal prosecutions.

It also provides for the establishment of joint investigation teams.

-----

In short, despite the fact that this entire article is intended to allay fears by stating that the American CIA will not be able to interrogate Irish citizens, the FBI will *anyway*! How is this better?

-----

However, Mr McDowell insisted yesterday that such powers would remain in the hands of the gardaand that those powers would neither be delegated nor ceded to US police authorities.

But it was the assertion that CIA operatives would be able to interrogate suspects in Ireland with which Mr McDowell took issue.

There is no question at all of the CIA interrogating Irish citizens or residents in secret or at all, he said.

-----

There's no question because if the CIA chooses to get involved, they can and *will* anyway. The English will bend over backwards and forwards like a Craftmatic Adjustable whore to ensure that any American offices will be given full cooperation in whatever they want. The English *never* say "No"... not for the benefit of the Irish's civil rights. They've never given a shit about them before. They won't start now.

And keep in mind, he already said US law-enforcement agencies, including the FBI, will be allowed to have questions put to witnesses and suspects resident in Ireland as part of investigations or criminal prosecutions So what difference does it make which American office interrogates Irish citizens on their own land? Absolutely none whatsoever. The difference between the FBI and the CIA is that the FBI is American Federal cops. The CIA consists of American Intelligence Officers - spies. One does not need to send in a spy into your home when a cop with the authority to do whatever they want to you would work just as well.

-----

He contended that the establishment of joint investigation teams would in no way permit foreign security or police services to interrogate persons in custody in Ireland.

-----

Bull-fucking-shit. This is a flat-out lie because he doesn't consider the English to be a foreign service. It's a sovereign one. And when it comes to Ireland, they'll do what they fucking well want.

-----

Only gardacan do that. And only gardacan arrest, detain or question suspects in this State.

All decisions made in respect of questioning suspects are made by gardaand there is absolutely no legal basis for delegating or transferring or sharing such powers.

-----

Thank you for confirming my initial fear, McDowell, you piece of shit traitor (can you tell I fucking hate this guy?).

-----

Mr McDowell argued the CIA would have no function under the agreement. Nor was there any provision for the transfer of prisoners against their will.

Mr McDowell pointed out that he had condemned the abuse of Guantanamo prisoners in June 2004.

The agreements have nothing to do with Guantanamo and could not result in any person going there or being sent back there.

-----

In other words: "We have perfectly capable prisons right here for anyone we desire to consider a "Terrorist".

-----

The agreement has already been referred to the IHRC by Mr McDowell, and its chairman, Dr Maurice Manning, said yesterday that they would examine the proposals when the bill giving effect to it was published.

Labour Justice spokesman Joe Costello said it was premature of Mr McDowell to sign the agreement before the legislation was published.

The implications should be teased out. There is serious concern with American respect for human rights in recent times. There are fundamental issues that need to be clarified, he said.

-----

Meaning this Act was signed and pushed through before it was reviewed as it rightfully should have by *all* the proper authorites, much less by the public it affects.

Surprise, surprise, a politician lies. Who would've thought it? I'm fucking disgusted at the state of things my original homeland has come to, and I truly hope this Act does not go unchecked or debated. And I'm disgusted that I can't do anything about it but rant. Besides, you're probably getting tired of me raging against the machine here, and I’ve probably already gone past the "special list" and moved right on up the "fake terrorist sympathizer" scale that they're probably going to start bombing Third World countries under the guise of hunting me down... so I'll shut up now with just one last thing:

Éireann Go Brách!
