So Wal*Mart has been trying to push their way into our town, and last year we fended them off, cuz the city council agenda would always say: Approval of Wal*Mart (or something similar). Everybody showed up to protest it.
The developer wanted it to be 195,000 sq. ft. Our mayor said if we were going to have another trash store, it would have to be under 175,000 sq. ft. The developer said that this just could not be done.
So the developer took his plans and instead constructed plans for a 250,000 sq. ft. shopping center. The city council agenda would say: Approval of shopping center (or some-such). The shopping center was approved handily.
What nobody realized is that the shopping center is to contain a Wal*Mart and "a Gordmans, hopefully," along with other retail stores similar to the North Pointe(?) town center, because it wasn't listed on the agenda as such, and thus, nobody showed up to protest it.
The developer said it wasn't a business thing, after all. It was a Wal*Mart thing. Why are we descriminating against Wal*Mart?
Our city council fucking sucks.
consumerism,
shopping,
