Fic: I knew you before
Author: de_cendres
Summary: Based upon my movie synopsis meme. During a murder investigation, PI Patrick Van Zedde (M.Fassbender) goes to a psychiatric center to confront a key witness. While he’s heading for the exit, he comes to meet a young man (J.McAvoy) flanked by two auxiliary nurses and captures his empty stare. His blue eyes seem to be so dead that Patrick is overwhelmed by sadness. Putting his feeling aside, he continues his path. In the following seconds, the young patient freezes and begins to come back, hurrying on Patrick, holding him with despair and whispering nonsensical words. The auxiliary nurses bring him under control and free Patrick. The PI leaves, more troubled than ever. Days pass by but Patrick can’t take this stranger out of his head. Moreover, he starts to make always the same kind of dreams. Dreams where he lives in the nineteenth century a secret and forbidden passion with the young man from the psychiatric center and ending in blood and death. Unable to stand this restlessness, he decides to search after the patient’s identity and is determined to find out if he’s drowning himself in madness or if a previous life may come to haunt him. Haunt both of them.

"I'll leave the honor for asking you a dance to the young Theodore Weinfield. "
"But, Sir Scott Baker, ..."
"No Sir Scott Baker, Miss Gardiner. I have to let the chance to the younger. "
He offered her a bow which she replied to with a slight curtsey before turning to the young man they were talking about and whose all Hampshire knew he was hopelessly in love with her. Trailing his gaze on the future young couple which would probably put a small advertisement in the local newspaper announcing their joyous nuptials in the course of the year, he backed cautiously, making sure to avoid crossing the way of young ladies who would not fail to ask him to accompany them to the dance floor. He had been dancing without stopping for nearly two hours and a half by now and his feet were starting to hurt.
Finding refuge in the Gardiners’ library, he heaved a deep sigh of relief and closed his eyes for a short time, enjoying the silence and calm finally found. He then sat in one of the comfortable chairs of the room without bothering to turn any light on. He drew himself up a little when he perceived a conversation that seemed to come in his direction.
"I do not understand you, Amelia. All the people I have met were lovely. And how far from London it might be, this ball is very friendly. "
"I want to leave, Harry. "
There was a silence between the two people and Frederick heard the man take a breath before speaking again, the tone filled with a mild rebuke.
"I have not been introduced to all the people of the assembly yet. "
"You will introduce yourself after the Sunday mass." The former fiancée of the man who continued to hide in the darkness, and did not lose a crumb of the conversation, replied. He bent his head and watched the silhouette of the young man who had the honor of marrying Amelia Lucas. He could not see much of him, but given his attitude, he looked like a gentleman, gracious and elegant. Without knowing the reason, and actually putting it on behalf of curiosity, Frederick could not take his eyes off him. Even in this semi-obscurity, he seemed to have a charisma and a magnetism that would certainly not keep women indifferent and which had obviously not left indifferent the famously icy Lucas’ daughter.
"Very well. I shall tell our host we cannot stay longer. Tell your parents about our leaving. "

He observed a broad smile showing up on Amelia’s face just before she disappeared from his range of vision, not long after. He stood up and, after a couple of steps, came close to Harold Williams before he left. He went next to him by the door, surprising him, and took the place where the young woman had been standing a few moments ago.
"You‘re leaving already? "
The man jumped and put his blue eyes on his. Fortunately for him, Frederick was not an easily impressionable man and despite the fact that this pair of blue eyes took his breath away, without he expecting it, he simply smiled, with a calm that differed completely from the feeling he was experiencing at that very moment and which he still did not understand.
"I believe we haven’t be properly introduced. "
"Indeed. My apologies for that." The sound of his voice close to him caused shivers run throughout Frederick’s body. "Harold Williams. "
"Sir Williams. Frederick Baker-Scott. "
"It is a pleasure. "
"It is mine. "
The silence between the two young men was not heavy or uncomfortable. It was just there, and neither one nor the other felt the need to break it to indulge in any talk. He looked at Sir Williams opening his mouth, ready to fall into conversation and even moving slightly his head toward him but then backed down. Long minutes shelled, allowing Frederick to stare without the least embarrassment at the young man. Finally, he detached his eyes from his.
"I should go. Mrs. Williams must be expecting me. I am certain we shall have the opportunity to meet again. "
Frederick shook his head slightly before moving back to let him pass. Sir Williams cleared his throat and was to go back to their hosts to leave. But the space between them was so small that their bodies were forced to graze. Attracted by a mechanical and magnetic force, Frederick’s body unconsciously followed Harold’s before he realized what he was doing. He then stood there, his eyes following the slow progression of the young man.
"I should hope so. "He murmured to himself. At that moment, their eyes met again when Sir Williams threw a glance over his shoulder. Frederick bowed his head while Harold seemed suspended. After a moment of hesitation, he returned him his bow before walking away.

"The more the years pass, the more beautiful the Gardiner's daughter looks, doesn’t she? "
Frederick merely replied with a vague and uninterested murmur which made his wife roll her eyes as she turned away and let her maid undress her. The trip back home had been spent in a most unusual silence. In general, Frederick was rather talkative and playful when they returned from balls or other receptions they were invited to. But tonight, or rather that night, he was cranky and suspicious. The man was well aware of that, and despite all the goodwill he tried to demonstrate in front of his wife, he could not help but feeling a strange emotion which he found difficult to define. Maybe it was a biting jealousy that gripped his heart. He had never really liked Amelia and if he had initially accepted the engagement, it was only to please his parents. So he did not understand why he could not prevent himself from going back to the scene he had witnessed, hidden in the shadows. Despite how hard he was trying to deny it, thinking of it again made his heart beat with jealousy, anger, even hatred.
"Are you alright, Sir? "
He focused back on the present and turned to his wife, who was glancing at him in her night dress and had just dismissed her maid. He watched her silently for several minutes so that she soon had enough and sighed before settling in the marital bed. Watching her, Frederick’s eyes darkened considerably with a desire so sudden that he gasped and made a movement of his shoulders to calm the heat of his body which was visibly excited by a scene he was living every day without feeling much special.
Approaching the bed like a predatory feline, he gradually untied all his unnecessary layers of clothing before getting on the bed, his hand up along his wife’s leg, slipping like a feather on silk, under her dress. He felt the young woman startled and the surprised look she gave him made his heart beat with a torrent of desire he was struggling to contain but did not bother to hide.
"Sir...," she began to protest but he told her to remain silent, placing a finger over his mouth to quiet her. As he watched Annabella’s eyes darken, a broad smile came over his stretched lips, victorious, as he bent to place them on the young woman’s. It was only after a few seconds she let herself go completely and answered his kiss with vigor and an almost animal passion, their tongues mingling and taming in an electrified ballet of such an intensity he was convinced he had never felt before.
His movements were drier, more abrupt and animal-like. He felt an urgency in him, he had to fill a need at all costs, as soon as possible. He who had always been particularly sweet and attentive to the needs and desires of his partner seemed now more concerned about his when he went back with a sharp movement down the gown of his wife to find its bottom where he penetrated her with a snap and without further notice. The woman uttered a cry of mingled grief and surprise but the pleasure she felt burning in her exploded. Frederick’s pelvis’ movements intensified and he forced himself to plunge his gaze into her eyes, though they were closed, to avoid to close his. Every time he would do it, he would see the scene he had witnessed, the intimacy he had discovered between the Williams which tormented him to the very depths of his being.
He was forced to place a hand over her mouth to prevent her from more screaming while her whole body trembled in the grip of the violent orgasm he lavished. He had never seen her in such a state of abandonment and ecstasy since their wedding day. The emotions he felt himself in that moment was far from the humdrum of their carnal. Finally he reached the ecstasy in turn, pushing a powerful rattle before letting him fall with all his weight on the frail body of the young woman, her hands and legs still embracing him.

The wake up had been smoothly. He could feel the sun gently caressing his eyelids and ordering him to open them only when he would feel the moment right. He felt exhausted, as if he had been withdrawn from all its forces little by little and was left with his whole body empty of energy. A shrill and regular noise intensified the headache that gradually took possession of his head when he awoke again, like a monster lurking in the shadows ready to descend on its prey from the moment it would notice. He groaned and shifted in his bed to be subtracted from the radius of the star burning. However, he felt the roughness of the sheets against his body in sharp contrast to the silk of the previous night. Something was wrong. A sigh, he flutters his eyelids and his eyes were fixed on the white wall in front of him.
"Patrick! "The voice infinitely relieved of Annabella could be heard just to his left and he turned his face to see the young woman light up a smile, her features suggesting that she had nearly not slept at all. No, not Annabella. Anna, he remembered.
