On the Tookie thing...

Since no one else has mentioned it on my lj so far, I'll be the one. Teh govenator just solidified proof of his nazi roots by not granting clemency to Williams. Just goes to show, anytime a black man starts to write, or do anything that might possibly help other young black and urban people caught up in the terrible life that continues to fuel the ( Read more... )

Yes, it's a good thing he tried to make black kids realize they shouldn't join gangs. But isn't that a little hypocritical, if he was organized in starting the Crips? Even though he ended up wanting to stop gang violence and keep kids from joining them, that doesn't take away what he did before. He also attacked a lot of inmates and officers in prison, even if I'm not sure how relevant that is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tookie_williams

I'll echo the_sweet Do you think he was innocent?

Everyone is hypocritical at some point in their life. What needs to be looked at closely is the nature of the hipocrisy. If I beat my children while they are growing up, then they become adults and they decide to beat their children, if I say, "hey, that's wrong", I am a hipocrit. The question is however, is my hipocrisy validated? Am I correcting a wrong ( ... )

Interesting, the only thing I've heard about Arnold and Hitler is that he admired how Hitler was able to gain so many followers. That doesn't sound like Hitler's ideas and attacks were something he wanted to mdoel.

Personally, I don't think it's about Tookie being black, but that's just me. :/ I don't put race into factors of crime and blame.

Most people arn't factoring race into the issue, which is a large problem. People refuse to recognize the good he has done because it doesn't effect the majority of America, aka whites. It effects mostly young black men and women who are experiencing a life of gang violence. This is where his words have effect and make a difference, and thats why it is important to the black community, and urban ghetto community that his message not be silenced. This is no longer an issue of crime and blame because he's been convicted of a crime, he is taking the blame, he was serving his sentence(while doing this, helping to change other people), but now he is dead. The important question was... did he need to be killed? What sort of justice were we handing out when we killed him?

I don't buy his explaination of admiring hitler because he was able to gain followers. There are other people in history who had more followers than hitler. I think he's just trying to cover up for what would obviously be percieved as a white supremist admiration of a monster. Considering his regional origin, and the fact that his father was a white supremist... I don't doubt arnold shares the same views, whether he is dumb enough to admit it is a different question. Of course he isn't, not if he wants to be govenator!
