On the Tookie thing...

Since no one else has mentioned it on my lj so far, I'll be the one. Teh govenator just solidified proof of his nazi roots by not granting clemency to Williams. Just goes to show, anytime a black man starts to write, or do anything that might possibly help other young black and urban people caught up in the terrible life that continues to fuel the ( Read more... )

Everyone is hypocritical at some point in their life. What needs to be looked at closely is the nature of the hipocrisy. If I beat my children while they are growing up, then they become adults and they decide to beat their children, if I say, "hey, that's wrong", I am a hipocrit. The question is however, is my hipocrisy validated? Am I correcting a wrong?

Looking at the Tookie situation delves deeply into a lot of issues that currently resides in our criminal justice system. When someone does a violent crime, warranting the death penalty, what is the gauge that we use to determine why this person should be put to death? Is it for revenge for the victims of the crime, or is it because the criminal is a threat to society at large and must never be given the opportunity to see the light of day, or influence another human being? I would say it's the latter. I am not against capital punishment per se. I think anyone who is a threat to society, and the safty of us all, should probably be killed. Tookie is not that however. He has actually become an asset in the fight against crime. I think this perception is more clear to individuals who have worked with at risk youth.

He killed people, yes. He is in jail for that for the rest of his life. California has given up on the idea of rehabilitating this man and so they decided to kill him. But wait... from behind bars, he has made a difference in a lot of peoples lives. Probably keeping many other at risk youth from committing violent crimes and killing others. Although he has not been rehabilitated, his life is aiding in the rehabilitation of others. Others who are out on the streets, others who have the ability to be a threat to society. So why kill him now? Why not let him have life in prison instead? It's not asking a huge deal to keep our government from executing a man who is being helpful to society from behind bars even though he has no chance of every being a free man again.

As far as attacking prisoners and officers in prison, that's the life of being in prison. I am close to quite a few people who are in jail for life. I even have friends who have killed people and are now free. And the things is... yes these people commited crimes. But these are human beings and they arn't doing what they did before.

I think i have some beliefs on capital punishment that are very different from the way most people see it. Most people see it as a method of revenge. I think child molesters, and sexual deviants should be eligable for capital punishment more so than a person like Tookie to be honest.

I believe the Govenator's father was a nazi, and Arnold proclaimed that Hitler was his role model.

On the topic of whether this man is innocent or not... He says he did not kill those people. And from what I've learned of his cases, the people who were witnesses were relatives or friends of the victims in the cases. Which brings me to believe they could easily mistake Tookie for another guy. It's actually been the case in many cases across the country. For a lot of people can't tell one big black guy from the next, and many crimes need a fall guy period. society doesn't ussually care who gets hanged, or even if they were the real person who commited the crime, so long as someone takes the fall, they can rest assured. Which is bullshit IMHO. I don't know if he commited the crimes, but I have not heard anything to make me believe he did so far.

Interesting, the only thing I've heard about Arnold and Hitler is that he admired how Hitler was able to gain so many followers. That doesn't sound like Hitler's ideas and attacks were something he wanted to mdoel.

Personally, I don't think it's about Tookie being black, but that's just me. :/ I don't put race into factors of crime and blame.

Most people arn't factoring race into the issue, which is a large problem. People refuse to recognize the good he has done because it doesn't effect the majority of America, aka whites. It effects mostly young black men and women who are experiencing a life of gang violence. This is where his words have effect and make a difference, and thats why it is important to the black community, and urban ghetto community that his message not be silenced. This is no longer an issue of crime and blame because he's been convicted of a crime, he is taking the blame, he was serving his sentence(while doing this, helping to change other people), but now he is dead. The important question was... did he need to be killed? What sort of justice were we handing out when we killed him?

I don't buy his explaination of admiring hitler because he was able to gain followers. There are other people in history who had more followers than hitler. I think he's just trying to cover up for what would obviously be percieved as a white supremist admiration of a monster. Considering his regional origin, and the fact that his father was a white supremist... I don't doubt arnold shares the same views, whether he is dumb enough to admit it is a different question. Of course he isn't, not if he wants to be govenator!
