Winter’s damask had unfurled itself across their bedroom window in the night, letting only a little more pale blue light leak inside than the thin curtains they never bothered drawing. Before moving in with Gojyo he’d never seen frost cover an entire pane like that, but like a lot of things about living with the redhead he’d found it surprisingly pleasant to simply take a step back and watch. He found that he loved to trace the frozen patterns with his gaze, often getting distracted enough that only Gojyo waking up could jarr him out of it. Right now though? In the early hours of the morning with the crystals still growing to cover the final few inches, this was his favourite time to watch them.
The world beyond was still far from waking and silence hung over their little house like the mist hung over the forest outside; even Gojyo was silent, pressed warmly along his side and his warm breath puffing against the healer’s neck. The heated bursts had more to do with the shiver that ran down his spine than the chill of their bedroom. It was a rare moment of serenity and peace, and Hakkai stored it away safely against whatever trials would be coming their way in the future. They had never been able to stay out of trouble of some kind for long he admitted to himself, hiding a wry smile in his lover’s scarlet hair. He wouldn’t change it, either, even knowing that moments like this would inevitably melt away just like the morning frost on their bedroom window.
