Life Changing Decision

Sep 07, 2008 15:54

Well over the last few months I have been thinking about many things. I have thought about my home life work and recreation. I have thought about the sacrifices that I have made and the ones that others have made for me. I have thought about friends gained and lost. Most of all I have thought about me and what is best for me. I have waxed and ( Read more... )

Maybe you are crazy. :) But you have to do what you think is best for you, and if the military isn't it, then it just isn't. :) I too have made a total career change, and it has worked out for the best. If you aren't happy doing what you are doing, then it definitely isn't worth it. Good luck to you.

Thanks, I really believe that you have to be happy to be successful and right now I am just not happy. Anytime that I think about life after the military I fell a huge weight lifted off my shoulders. I know what makes me happy and I think that I am making the right choice. I will let you know how it works out.

I think you're making the right decision...you HAVE to do what is going to make you happy, and the money will follow...in the meantime, do what you need to do to support your ultimate goal - 20 years from now, you'll look back and smile because you made the right choice. :-)

Are you just not happy in the Navy anymore, or is it just time for a change??

I think that I am ready to move on to something that I love to do. I have had a great time in the navy....I am just ready to move on. You know what I mean?

Yeah. I know what you mean. It just seems like you've put in so much time in the Navy and you're half way to retirement. How much do you know about interior design?? Do you think you'll be more happy there than in the Navy or will it be something that you figure out once you're in school??

Well as far as a career in interior design goes, I have been interested in it pretty much my whole adult life. I know that I am ready to jump right in and use all of my potential. I have thought about the fact that I am leaving a career that I have spent 9 years in but the problem for me is that I am truly not happy. I wake up in the morning and dread going to work. You know how motivated I used to be and how much I loved the Navy before. I just think that I have given all I can give to the Navy.

Your 9 years is an awesome commitment. Regardless of what others say, you did what most never would have. You're one of the proud, the few... er.. wait.. lol.

Sometimes you just gotta grab the wheel in life and take control. You've got a good plan, you can't go wrong by doing school. A degree is a Degree! Even if the design market is a little slow when you're ready for it, you'll make the best of it. :)

Best of luck, my friend! Don't let anyone change your mind!

That is some awesome advise! You just put a smile on my face. To me money and a "safe retirement" is worth nothing if I am not happy. These are supposed to be some of the best years of my life and if I don't get to enjoy them then I will miss out on more than money can ever by! Thanks again!
