League of Ordinary Rogues.

Molly Morgan Doss.

These are the two photos they gave us from the ultrasound. The technician would only commit to a seventy-five percent chance that it is actually a girl, though. The shy little bugger wouldn't open her legs, though she was rather energetic with her arms. The really important part, though, is that everything seems normal and healthy. They pegged her due date at September the twenty-ninth. Amanda has gotten the nursery cleaned out, now. When my mum and dad get back from vacation we plan on consulting my mom about our paint scheme. Amanda has decided upon a jungle theme, partially because it is unisex. I like using animals rather than some licensed theme. Everything is coming together. Amanda's belly is getting bigger every day, I have photos chronicling it's rather rapid expansion to make room for our little baby. They say that right now it is about the size of a standard soda can.

We think I may be allergic to tequila. The horror! I love tequila. I have been making my own margaritas lately, with tequila, triple sec, sweet and sour mix, and a splash of lime juice. YUMMY. It seems like when I get drunk, though, my skin gets really abnormally flushed. I tried to blame it on the heat, but now I really think that maybe I am allergic to the tequila. What is bizarre is that Amanda never noticed the reaction when I was buying the premixed stuff and not adding tequila to it. And I buy the Jose Cuervo Golden Margarita, which ought to use the same tequila that I buy when I make my own. I bought some Sauza tequila this time to try when I make some more my next set of off days. Eventually I am going to make my own sweet and sour mix as well, using just lemon and lime juices, water, and sugar.

The new TOOL album is everything I could have hoped for. Parts of it are very heavy, like the first single Vacarious, but there are also a lot of quieter, more reflective moments as well. The album is as good as either of the last two, Aenima and Lateralus, and may be the best of all three.

TOOL has released four LPs and one EP, as well as the boxed set SALIVAL with a CD and DVD, and a booklet of artwork. The first EP, Opiate, and the first LP, Undertow, were just warm-ups for the epic Aenima. This was before a rather lengthy period of non-activity before 2002's Lateralus was released. Even now it has been four years since Lateralus. I loved Lateralus, but I liked Aenima better as an album. One of the things I liked more is the use of non-song segues which broke things up, something I feel is important when you buy out near eighty minute epics. Lateralus didn't have the segues, though the individual songs were an advancement of the work on Aenima. In that way 10,000 Days reminds me more of Aenima. Also I find it flows better than Lateralus, which was weighted with nearly all of the heavier material at the beginning, with the long, meditative trilogy of songs at the end.

Anyway, I don't think any TOOL fan will be disappointed with the new album, but like I said about Vicarious, it isn't going to win over anyone who doesn't like them. The thing about have a completely unique song, is that every album has to have that same completely unique sound, that essential TOOL-ness. If they lost that they might as well be Nickelback. 10,000 Days is probably their most dark album of them all, and it is 100% TOOL.

Also I picked up the debut album from the Australian band WOLFMOTHER. It is a great album. Every critic seems to compare them to a combination of The White Stripes and Black Sabbath, because that is the very first thing that will jump in peoples' minds if they are fans of either group. They have the garage sound of the White Stripes and Jack White-sounding vocals with crunchy Black Sabbath guitars. You can get the album for less than ten bucks at most places, and it is definitely worth it. Speaking of Jack White, the album from his newest band, the Raconteurs, comes out a week from today.

We did watch Final Fantasy Advent Children a few days ago. Amanda and I were both underwhelmed. It just didn't seem to add anything to the FF7 world, instead revisiting issues you would have thought were resolved. Most of the characters seem just thrown in as fanservice, too. The animation is expectedly excellent, but the whole enterprise felt pointless to me. I really loved FF7, so it is a disappointment.

We did also watch An History of Violence, and it was nice to see a genuinely good movie after all the mediocre ones I have watched recently. It is a neat film about the nature of violence, and the fine line between justified and senseless violence, and the effect on people. Also we just watched The School of Rock, a pretty entertaining comedy starring Jack Black.

And I guess that is it from Dossland.

Later!
