Subject: Bass solo in pic; Bass and Kaito in drabble
Table: C [
Prompt Table]
Prompt: 27. Free
Author's Notes: There's a little blood in this, plus the subject of death (briefly, although no one actually dies). This fic isn't canon although it's placed during Bass's robot-turned-human mini-virus he and a few others are going through right now. Just consider this an exploration into the dark, but only going a few steps before the grues eat me running back out. Oh yeah, the picture is after the fic itself, linked because it's kinda big sorry XD; (750 pixels wide).
Kaito was worried. Australia be damned, ever since he'd caught one of Bass's posts the other day he'd been preoccupied. The virus he was under was going a lot longer than most of the other viruses he'd seen. Most, but he was still worried. It was a well-known fact that Bass had a volatile temper and wasn't one to just lie around all day, and while his robot body could more than handle it, a human one? Not so much. When he heard his computer blip, Kaito glanced up to see it was a video message from Bass. At first he wasn't all that surprised.
That was, until he noticed his "brother" was slumped on the floor of his apartment's bathroom.
"BASS!"
Kaito's worried cry, heard from a video reply of his own, made the robot smirk faintly. He relaxed his weight against the front of the toilet bowl, his arm stretched back across it. He raised his head slightly, staring at the camera with weak, hazy eyes that belonged to a man who hadn't slept in three days, since the virus had started. And it showed.
"H...hey Kaito." His chuckle was empty, causing more lines of worry in his friend's face.
"Bass, what... what HAPPENED to you!? You look like death warmed over!"
"You know..." Bass slipped slightly, his arm splashing down into the bowl's cool water. He didn't seem to notice or, if he did, care. "It's funny you mention death..." He closed his eyes, bangs falling over them again as he drew in a breath that rattled in his chest. "There's o...one advantage you humans have over robots..."
"...B-Bass?... Wh...what?..."
"Humans..." Bass' smirk had no mirth in it, as weak as the rest of him. "...can die."
The statement visibly hit Kaito like lightning, and he stared at his camera in shock. "B-BASS!!" His cry still echoed slightly in the bathroom when the connection was shut off. Bass held his hand over his now-closed laptop for a moment or two, then leaned back against the cold porcelain.
He'd never let himself go, and he had a feeling (somewhere in the clear part of his mind) that so did Kaito. Not before defeating his greatest rival, Megaman, and not after if he could help it. There was really no reason he'd said it, except possibly from behind the walls inside that had lowered from lack of sleep. Maybe he...
A sudden rumble came up from within and he leaned forward, his free hand clapping over his mouth as he was suddenly jerked into a coughing fit. When he finally moved it away he saw it was speckled with blood; he acknowledged, without really paying attention to, the little bit dribbling from one corner of his mouth now. So, that was how his body was going to play. As he stared at his hand, Bass found a darkness tugging at the edges of his vision, beginning to drag him backwards.
"Funny..." His voice sounded hollow in the room, as he slipped sideways a little. "Being human... I feel better... May..be..." There was a light splash as he tipped to one side, not even trying to catch himself as his body finally gave into the sleep he needed so badly. Bass coughed into the linoleum, speckling it with a few more dots of red, as his last thought before sleep grabbed him completely came back up in his mind.
Maybe feeling like this isn't so bad...
