Everyone said they looked so clean.
Shaking her head, Rena finally unwrapped them from around her legs, having pulled her knees tight up against her chest. She was back in her little sanctuary - the abandoned van in the trash heap that she’d somehow made livable.
She spread them open. Five on each, including a thumb.
They’d deserved what they’d gotten. Rena had seen to that. She didn’t kill them for the joy of murder. She killed them because they were hurting her, hurting her father. It wasn’t even Oyashiro-sama’s doing.
She’d killed them…because she wanted to.
No matter how many times she washed them, bathed herself, they were always stained with blood. She could see it now, see the dried blood under her nails, and she picked at them, trying to clean them off, wiping at her wrists, not realizing that she’d begun scratching her arms again, that she was drawing fresh blood on top of the hallucination.
They looked clean to everyone else, but to Rena they’d be forever stained.
