They were approaching their sixth year on board the Enterprise, and while Leonard recalled Halloween celebrations in the past, this was the first year that there was a child on board old enough to be cognizant of the holiday, and the crew seemed to be taking note, judging from the number of people asking him about Olivia's costume.
This was the first year she had an active part in choosing for herself, too, and while Leonard himself hadn't been much of a DC fan growing up (preferring the more modern Captain Blasto and his rocket ship), he could appreciate that Olivia didn't want to be the princess in distress, looking for someone to save her.
Nope, his little girl was gonna be the superhero. Yep. But it was still a few days until Halloween, and despite her pleas, Leonard made her take it off after she played with it for a few hours. "Come on, bath time," he said, herding her in the direction of the bathtub.
"Where's Daddy?" she asked, looking at the door, and Leonard knew she wanted Jim to see her in her costume.
"Daddy's got a meeting tonight, baby, he's got to talk to some important admirals." But Leonard was wondering as well, the meeting should have been over an hour ago. This was the second time Jim would be handing the ship over while they went on 'family leave', surely the Federation Council wouldn't be more questions than the first time. "Bath, then we can all eat dinner together, okay?"
"And movie?"
"Maybe," Leonard said, "if you eat all your veggie cubes." Trying not to laugh at the face she made, he looked appropriately stern. "Or you can go to bed early."
"Okay," she said, slightly dejected as she walked toward the bathroom.
