Leonard looked up when
he heard the ship go to red alert. First instinct was to contact Jim, see what was going on, to make sure that he was okay. Fucking difficult, trying not to worry about his husband, much less one that was considerably pregnant. Just that morning, as they were dressing for work, Leonard had wrapped his arms around Jim, his hands exploring Jim's abdomen, feeling their daughter moving around, waking up for the day.
But then the ship tilted to the side, and Leonard knew this was no instrumentation issue ‐ they were under attack. "I need everyone prepping for incoming injuries," he called out, watching Chapel automatically setting up all the biobeds. Jim was no doubt busy right now, and Leonard took a deep breath before running to his computer to see what was going on. He had to let trust Jim to contact him as soon as he could.
Reports were filtering in from all over the ship. There would be casualties, he knew, and if the shields failed, they were all done.
They started trickling in, one by one, or in pairs. Broken bones, phaser injuries, someone who fell from one of the tubes, trying to escape. Security officers were stationed outside the infirmary, making sure no Klingons got near them, and thus far, things had been okay.
Then he heard it. Ellison to Sickbay, casualties in Corridor 34.25.8. The Captain is injured... chest wound. At first, Leonard's legs buckled underneath him, his vision tunneling at those words. He reached out and braced himself against the wall, turning slowly and catching Christine's face. Her mouth opened in shock, then she pushed the communication panel, acknowledging the message. "Leonard," she called out to him, but he couldn't hear it. Everything was a loud roar in his head.
Jim... Olivia... If he lost them both, like this... Staggering to his feet, Leonard grabbed his bag, heading out the door, three medics right behind him. They all set off at a run toward Engineering, Leonard not caring about anything at that moment except finding Jim, getting him to sickbay, getting him fixed.
