Why Gotham?

Sep 13, 2009 17:31

Welcome, Gotham City and the world, to what you've been waiting for all this month. Join me, Jack Ryder, and a pool of respondents from all across Gotham in my new expose...

The marquee flashed onto the screen.

WHY GOTHAM?

'Why Gotham?' indeed.

Jack Ryder smiled for his camera crew as his face hit televisions across the nation. The footage they were getting ready to splice was recorded weeks in advance, but his monologue while walking the streets was going live. Creeper had been rearing his yellow head without warning over the past months, so it was time for a potential swan-song. If early retirement beckoned, he was more than financially secure enough for it, but Jack Ryder was going to be a name that echoed through journalism. And this five months of work, with another month of media hyping, was going to be the perfect mix of style and substance to do it with.

"Gotham City. Some call it the most powerful city on Earth. Some call it the most spoiled. Some go so far as to call it cursed, and who can blame them? Psychotic criminals second to none, years of police and corporate corruption, urban decay, and a host of disasters that have struck it over the years. And yet in spite of all that, it has the lowest outward population migration of any major city in our country, if not the world. The rest of the country turns their eyes to us and asks us 'Why stay?' The more callous among them say 'They get what they deserve for living there.' Join me, as I go from Gotham's highest corporate and social spires, to it's lowest dregs. All to ask the question 'Why Gotham?'"

He smirked. "And for those of you who need just a little more bait, make sure to watch all the way to the end. We're going to be showing you never before seen footage from inside the homes of the most well known faces in Gotham, and it won't be what you're expecting. I'm Jack Ryder, and this... is Gotham City."
