concrit, please.
[yoochun and junsu visit the rooftop at school.]
there aren't more instances of silly play, not even in an elementary school; this is what junsu thinks. secretly though, he likes it. no, he loves it.
"we're going to be spies now" says yoochun, gripping the edges of his uniform jacket to close tightly across his chest. "we need to escape this place with no one knowing."
"you mean we're going to try and ditch school without the teachers coming after us..." junsu deadpans.
"though i doubt we'll get through scot-free. they mark attendance after lunch remember?"
yoochun scowls, letting go of his grip on his jacket.
"why do you have such a low sense of imagination?" yoochun mourns. "and why" says yoochun with a smirk, "are you just sitting there, agent duck? our mission is officially a go!"
yoochun sprints across the courtyard and junsu follows after only a slight hesitation.
"why am i agent duck?" junsu asks.
"shhhh..." says yoochun, dramatically whispering while putting a finger to junsu's lips. "we're close to enemy lines, agent duck. we must reach the hangar in four minutes or we will fail."
the four minute deadline is because in four minutes, the bell will ring. junsu knows this. he still hasn't gotten why he is being referred to as 'agent duck', but what puzzles him the most is that the 'hangar' that yoochun refers to is the school's large indoor gym.
"so we're not ditching?" asks junsu.
but before junsu can hear an answer, yoochun's got him by the wrist and is dragging them across the way.
amazingly, yoochun has the key to the padlock. and when junsu throws a shocked glance at yoochun for it,
yoochun just gives a smirk and says, "a good spy never tells."
somehow, junsu knows that there's something wrong with that phrase. he doesn't ask further because yoochun's pulling him inside.
"quickly, agent duck. the enemy agents patrol these parts every five minutes!"
next, they're racing up the stairs to the second floor bleachers and then yoochun's pulling down the emergency ladders.
"hey, hey, hey, wait. yoochun!"
but yoochun's already got them pulled down. he's steadily climbing the ladder and when he's at the top, he looks down to smile and wink at junsu, who's still at the bottom.
"don't worry agent duck" yoochun says as he pushes the hatch to the roof. "if you're huge ass gets stuck, i'll pull you through."
now, junsu gets why he's being called 'agent duck'. and now, junsu gets that they are going to the roof. the only question now is: why aren't they ditching school?
regardless, junsu follows without a word because junsu can see through yoochun's smiles. there are no tears, but yoochun's sobbing.
when junsu finally pulls himself up to through the hatch, yoochun's already smoking while leaning against the ledge.
"yoochun!" junsu cries out in horror. yoochun proceeds to flick his ashes down the side of the building. "what if the teachers see?!"
but this time, yoochun's stoic. it's as if he doesn't hear junsu's voice and this makes junsu suddenly passive.
junsu copies yoochun's pose. junsu's never gotten into the habit of smoking, but he leans against the railing with the same ease as yoochun does.
it's only after yoochun finishes three cigarettes that he opens his mouth.
"nice up here, don't you think?" yoochun says. there's a slight shove on junsu's shoulder and when junsu turns his head, yoochun's soft, wet, but warm mouth meets his.
for a good minute, junsu feels engulfed. and just as suddenly, junsu is set free. not for long though, because yoochun wraps his arms around junsu, pulling him close. and for junsu, it feels as if yoochun hugs, not only with his arms, but his whole body and heart.
something crinkles in yoochun's pocket and at the noise, junsu tries to pull away. junsu knows what it is. the photo of yoochun's mother is the only thing junsu remembers yoochun stuffing in his pocket this morning. yoochun pulls him in all the more. tighter and tighter, until the crinkling noise is louder and junsu is sure that the picture is now crumpled.
"yoochun-ah..." junsu whispers to yoochun's shoulder.
"why do you think people are buried when they die?" asks yoochun.
there's almost a childlike innocence to the question. junsu doesn't know how to answer.
"yoochun-ah..."
junsu feels like sobbing.
"i think the reason people want to bury bodies is because the spirit goes above and beyond. it's like this, see? since the real essence of the dead person has gone where we can't reach 'em, we try to keep a part of the dead person here, on earth. stupid, aren't we?"
"yoochun..."
"don't cry junsu. one day we'll see how great it is up there..."
yoochun pulls away, an arm around junsu's neck so that yoochun can direct both of their gazes to the blue sky.
"yoochun-ah, i'm sorry. your mother... the funeral was only yesterday and still, i... still, i selfishly dragged you to school..."
"junsu-yah" says yoochun, looking straight into junsu's watery eyes. "just promise me one thing."
"..."
"promise me that we'll soar together? only when we absolutely have to...we'll go together?"
junsu finds that his voice is gone, trapped, because tears and anguish make it catch in his throat.
instead, junsu nods furiously, vigorously. junsu nods even as yoochun turns his gaze back to the sky because now, yoochun will never be alone.
