I can't believe it's been over a year since I've updated this journal!
Wow, where to begin? So much has changed in my life since that last post -- all for the better. I'm now engaged to the most perfect guy I could have ever found for myself. He proposed to me during a marching band show (it was literally part of the show) and found the most beautiful ring in the world with no help from me. I was, by no means, expecting such an elaborate proposal. The lengths he went to in order to make it perfect really meant a lot to me. The wedding date is set for March 13, 2010.
We moved to Franklin, MA at the end of June into a very spacious apartment. The biggest downfall (which we discovered this winter) is how drafty the place is. Even so, we've been managing. We'll probably live here until we find a house to move into. We've both had enough of this moving to a new place every year. It's nice to think that we might actually stay in one place for a decent length of time. It gave us a little more motivation to unpack the boxes, knowing that they wouldn't be packed right up again once the summer rolls around.
I started a new job in the middle of July. I'm now working at the New England Center for Children in Southborough, MA. It's a private school for children with autism spectrum disorders who, for one reason or another, can't function well in a general education classroom. I've survived quite a few difficult and disturbing situations through this job, but at the same time, have been exposed to even more situations that would be classified as enjoyable and rewarding. It took me a long time to become acclimated to this job, but it's all been worth it. The school is paying for over 90% of my graduate work through Simmons College. I will be able to graduate in the spring of '11 with my MS in Severe Special Education.
Barack Obama will be taking office as the first African American President of the United States on Jan 20, 2009. He's got a tough job ahead of him, trying to straighten up the mess that George W. has gotten us into over the course of the the past eight years. I hope he does well and proves to everyone that he is capable of holding up his end of the bargain. I have faith in him -- that's not a job I would want to hold right now.
At this point in time, despite the economic crisis, my life is on the up-and-up.
