As much as I like watching T.V. and reading comics, there is one thing that just sickens me as i've found how much its resorted to.
Anytime a TV show or comic, especially in DC i've heard from people, when executives want to make a series more hard edged and gritty, they make the creators have someone raped. Now there are plenty of ways to make things grittier, but if you have to say rape every fucking time, something is wrong with you. In a recent DC comic, i'm not sure which one it is so i'll edit once I find it, to make a villain more evil, they have him rape a female character.
Now because of the way the heirarchy goes in comics, and artist is required to draw such-and-such and x amount of panels for it. The artist that did this bit, said he felt disgusted after doing it and didn't want to have to do anything like that again.
A similliar thing happened on Battlestar Galactica in the second season. In that season, the Sharon on the ship was nearly raped when men from the Pegasus ship came to question her. But, the Pegasus had a 6 cylon already on their ship that they had found, and had already raped her. Now theirs was a bit more understandable as they were showing the dehuminising aspect of fighting something machine made that, for all accounts, looks acts smells and feels human. But even with that, there still should be a line we don't cross as easily as fucking hop-skotch.
There is Law&Order SVU which is all about sexual offenders for the most part, but that is still based on something we do have here in the states. While that is a hard show to watch sometimes, it is showing something about our society that is unforgivable and attrocious. But if we have to add it to all other fiction that we do, it's really not sending a positive message to anyone.
So really all i'd have to say to any person in a suit at a comic of TV production company... Keep these fuckers' cocks in their pants and stop showin me shit that no one wants to watch.
