The snow has not stopped falling for eight hours. Courses in the maths and science departments were canceled, out of fear the the students would slip on the notoriously steep, narrow stairways and break their necks.
In the courtyard, students are using their unexpected free time in a variety of ways. Some are diligently trying to study, leaning against trees and in archways, trying in vain to shield their books from the oncoming blizzard. Most, however, are amusing themselves...making snow-sculptures of the chancellor and various professors, heading to the local coffeehouse to warm up...and holding impromptu snowball fights.
It is in this last pursuit that we find a tall, pale young lady in a bright red cloak running across the commons areas. Something about her makes her the focus of attention...her vibrant dress, sharp tongue, the fact that she is the only female on campus....
In any case, she hurries after a fellow student, a snowball in one hand, a stack of books in the other.
"Milton Milford, you come back here this instant!"
She doesn't even notice the portal until she has already ran through it.
