TV Show Meme Day 13,14,15
Day 13 - Favorite childhood show
I watched a lot more TV as a kid than I do now. I watched Nickolodeon (this was way before it became Nick or Nick Jr.) constantly. I love all the shows from the late 80s/early 90s, but I LOVED Today's Special. When I was a little older (3rd or 4th grade), I watched a lot of PBS, mainly Square One (I loved Mathnet!).
Day 14 - Favorite male character
Either The Doctor or Captain Jack. I refuse to choose between them. I especially loved the series 3 interactions between 10 and Jack. John and David work so well together, and it really shows on screen. I love them both separately, but together they're great. The Doctor is...The Doctor. It's impossible for me to explain why I like him. And Jack...I think he's one of the most interesting characters I've ever seen. He's complicated, and there's still so much unknown about his (lengthy) past.
Day 15 - Favorite female character
This is a little harder. I've been told I don't warm to female characters very quickly, but I find most of them really poorly written and neurotic. I really love Martha and Donna on Doctor Who, Summer on The OC, Margaret Houlihan on MASH. I don't think, for the most part, that they're stock female characters. Martha was in med school and proved to be a great intellectual match for The Doctor. Donna was a little older than most of the companions, and that just brought a different dynamic to the role which I really liked. I liked the way Summer's character grew over the course of the show; she started out a party girl and ended up an activist at Brown. It took awhile for Major Houlihan to grow on me, but her character really changed in the later seasons after she'd been married and divorced and Frank Burns had been written out. The episode where she feels left out by all the nurses is one of my favorites.
