So, about Universe For Sale. I very unfortunately ran into a game breaking bug, but I have a feeling it may have been my fault because I once exited the game before the auto save finished. When I opened the game again, a character was talking, but there was no speech bubble and no amount of clicking would fix it, so I had a choice: either start over from the beginning again or quit. I chose to quit, which hurt because I was really enjoying the game and really didn't want to stop, but I had gotten so far into the game already and I didn't want to start over either. It was frustrating and upsetting. Maybe I'll come back to that game again one day, but I decided to play a different game instead.
That game was This Bed We Made. It's set in 1958 in Montreal and you play as a hotel maid named Sophia who has a penchant for snooping around. A game that encourages me to snoop is right up my alley, and you do plenty of it, while cleaning up too. But soon Sophia discovers she seems to have a stalker, and it becomes more intriguing from there as you uncover more mysteries on the fifth floor. I do love a good mystery too. It's like this game was made for me.
You can share your findings with someone. I chose the receptionist, Beth, but it's possible you can choose someone else. The gameplay involves snooping around the rooms and solving the occasional puzzle, which is mostly just cracking codes, but I didn't mind. It's always clear what to do because you have your objectives. Any evidence Sophia finds is logged too, but apart from some codes you don't really have to refer back to the information. There's no big deduction at the end of the game or anything like that.
That being said, some of the choices you make appear to affect the outcomes at the end. Certain characters can be incriminated, and by the end I wasn't sure if I could have changed that. However, it didn't take me long to realize that the actions I took (or rather didn't take) led to the conclusion. The whole time when you find the evidence in the rooms, you can choose to either leave it or throw it out. The whole time I decided to leave the evidence behind because I've always thought it was best to not tamper with the evidence. In retrospect now, I realize if I had just thrown out some incriminating evidence that may have changed things. And this whole time I thought I was doing a good thing. It is also possible to put Sophia at risk too. This being the 1950s and sexual orientation being a topic that's significant to the story, it was a dangerous issue to be out back then.
The graphics and animation were similar to the Life is Strange series. It had that kind of a vibe to it, and the voice acting is just as good too. I really enjoyed this game. It was both fun to play and had a captivating story line with unexpected twists. I had a good old time snooping around too. Here's a screenshot. So many things to look at.
Now I'm going to start a game called The Tartarus Key. I believe this is the one that is designed to look like an old Playstation 1 game. I think it's in the horror genre, but hopefully it's not too horrifying.
