I just finished watching the second season of Iron Fist. Normally I'd make a post the day after, but what with vacation coming up and also Grammy's birthday on Sunday, I want to get this done now. So this was actually really good. So much better than the first season. And I'd say it's one of the strongest seasons of any of Marvel's shows on Netflix. It has a lot more action and great character development and relationships, and went in a surprising but awesome direction. There's only ten episodes this time instead of thirteen, which I think is just right. Keeps things tight and avoids too much padding. I'm very much OK with shorter seasons for these shows. Maybe they should do that for all the Marvel shows. So what happened in this season? A lot of changes. There will probably be some spoilers here, but I'm not going to get too detailed either.
It begins with a feud between two rival gangs called the Tigers and the Hatchets, but then Davos enters the picture along with Joy. They've both got a shared hatred towards Danny, and Davos specifically wants to take the Iron Fist away from him as he sees it as being rightfully his, and he does accomplish this. I thought at first it was because he's just a sore loser, but he feels like he is on this self-righteous path to serve justice, which usually means brutally murdering people. What I don't get, is why he cares about NY at all? It's not his home. Anyway, that was the only thing that puzzled me. And the gangs all get tangled up in this as Danny and Colleen try to keep the peace and keep people from getting killed.
Then we have a woman that Danny bumps into named Mary, a strange lady who's kind of this rogue element with a sketchy past, but that's all I'll say about her. I've heard she's based off of the character Typhoid Mary in the comics. I think I've come across that name before. She becomes a bit of a problem and is still alive by the end of the season, so she could be a future antagonist.
What about some of the other characters? Loving Colleen and Danny together. She actually gets to train him this time and believe it or not, Danny didn't annoy me once, which is good. A few times yeah he did make some irrational decisions, but he's still learning. He didn't shout that he was the Immortal Iron Fist at everybody, and I think the show is rather self aware of this, which is why changes were made and most importantly how it ends with Colleen (*SPOILERS* She gets the power of the Iron Fist). I especially loved Colleen and Misty together. I so want a Knight Wing spinoff show now.
Joy is as unlikeable as ever and my opinion of her hasn't really changed even after the season ended. I actually really thought they were going to kill her off lol. What about my man Ward? My favorite character from a pretty awful first season. He's just as good here and he's improving and trying to be a better person. He's attending NA meetings for his addiction and such. Trying and mostly failing to reconnect with his sister after he lied about their dad being alive. I like how he's helping Danny out now. Sometimes still abrasive, but that's just his personality and that's why I like him. It's the same reason I liked Gregory House. :P And now he and Danny are on a quest in Asia trying to learn more about the Iron Fist and both well trying to figure out who they are. Danny wasn't exactly what he thought he was and is still trying to understand where his place is in everything. Another spoiler: he gets the Fist back. Both fists. I was waiting for that. And it can be used with weapons too. :O
Davos, eh as I said, he annoyed me. He should have been killed, but I understand for Danny it would still be killing his brother so...I don't think he'll be back. They shouldn't bring him back either or redeem him or whatever. I've had enough of him.
I think that's about all I have to say for this haphazard write up. I never thought I'd say this, but now I'm eager for a season three of Iron Fist. There's a little teaser for Daredevil at the end. So I guess that's what will be coming next and it seems like it will be darker than it already is. Matt taking a note from The Punisher? (I realize the way I worded this, but I don't mean that literally) I wonder if it will be coming out towards the end of this year or not until next year. Hmm. Will just have to wait and see.
So, I might put out one more blog post before I leave. It will be either to talk about games or I will just say a brief farewell before I leave on my vacation.
How about a screenshot from this season of Iron Fist? Yellow mask got me excited. Too bad he never really wore it after this. This is a flashback scene with Danny and Davos dueling for the right to the fight the dragon and get the Iron Fist. You know, I still never saw Danny's fight with the dragon. Will I ever get to see it? I'm beginning to doubt that. :(
