Birthday at Legoland

So I spent my birthday at Legoland. I know it is mainly for kids, but I didn't care. I've never been a huge thrill seeker and I don't mind kiddie rides, so I still had a fun time. The last time I went there was shortly after the park opened, so in 1999. I hadn't been since and they've really expanded the park. The grounds are pretty nice, and though it's midsummer the crowds weren't as bad as Disneyland gets in the summer time.

We got there after the park opened because the hours on their website was incorrect. We first headed over to the Sky Cruiser ride because I heard it was one of the rides with the longest line. We waited 45 minutes, but the ride really wasn't worth the wait. It's kind of silly really. I don't know why that one is so popular.

Other rides we hit up were a mini log ride (I thought it was going to be painful going down the drops, but it wasn't), a spinning sliding pirate ship, which was fun. Then we went to The Dragon roller coaster, another fun ride.

Then we got lunch in Fun Town. We got burgers and fries, which were good. Heading back the way we came we went to the Skipper School ride. It's a slow boat ride, but you steer the boats yourself. Legoland has some strange rules. It's not really like Disneyland and they aren't very efficient when it comes to loading people on rides. A line may look short, but you could be waiting a while. So the strange situation we encountered with Skipper School is there is no line at all. No, the employee gives you a buzzer thingy, like you get at restaurants, and he tells you to go wait in the children's play area and you get buzzed when it's time to go to the ride. Very weird. There also wasn't much shade in the play area. You have to be lucky to get a bench in a shady spot. I did enjoy the boat ride. I went with my dad. Most of the rides in Legoland only held two people, so one person had to be alone. That's another reason Legoland is inefficient. I'm not the best driver. No wonder I don't want to drive a car. But I was also doing a zig zag thing on purpose for fun.

I should mention we did a lot of backtracking and circling around the park several times because we had some trouble finding certain attractions. As we continued walking, my mom and I went on a ride in the Lands of Adventure called Cargo Aces. It's a little plane ride that whips you around in a circle. My dad sat that one out. He was starting to feel uncomfortable being on kiddie rides. Continuing on we walked through the Imagination Zone. The Technic Coaster is here, but would you believe it, it was the one ride in Legoland my mom and I wouldn't go on. For me because it has a huge drop and for my mom because of the hairpin turns. It is a Wild Mouse coaster after all, like Goofy's Sky School at California Adventure, but bigger.

Eventually we found our way to Miniland. The models of the cities are always neat to look at. They had a lot more than when we were last there, including scenes from the Star Wars films. It was hot walking through there though because there was no shade. Overall it was hotter than I expected it to be at Legoland.

I don't remember the order of things, but we went and looked at the Lego Movie set. That was pretty cool. Everything is awesome! :) Then my mom and I went on the Fairy Tale Brook boat ride. My dad was like hell no and stayed on the sidelines again. I guess the child inside him died lol. Silly ride with scenes from fairy tales, but it was relaxing. I went on that ride the first time I came to Legoland. Then we went on Coastersaurus, which is like Gadget's Go Coaster at Disneyland. My dad went on that one with us, and they let you go around twice. Woo.

Next it was time to try the famous apple fries. They are deep fried apples sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar and whipped cream for dipping. I've heard about how great this treat is, but really it's not that amazing. There's more breading than apple and they're not as sweet as I expected. It really didn't need the breading. They were still good, but not fantastic.

Before ending the day at the Water Park, I wanted us to look at the Lego Factory to see how they build Legos. Of course we had a hell of a time finding it, but when we did it was pretty neat.

So, the water park...this was probably the best part of the day. However, it was around this time I discovered I was sunburned on my legs, arms and nose. I hadn't put sunscreen on because I'm stupid and I felt like I didn't have time before we left the house. So my mom put sunscreen on me at the water park. For some reason she thought it was her fault I was burnt, but I told her I had already been burned before she put sunscreen on. My dad didn't do any of the water activities. He just lounged on the beach chair. My mom went in the lazy river. The water was actually pretty warm. Then we went on all the slides. There were two body slides and one raft slide. One of the slides was enclosed, but my mom didn't like that. It was my favorite one. On the raft slide I ended up going down backwards. It was kind of scary. I couldn't tell where I was going. The other body slide was kind of painful. Then we went floating in the lazy river once more before we headed out and changed back into our regular clothes.

Back in Legoland I wanted to watch the boat flume ride go down the drop. So we watched that a few times. It makes a huge splash, so you don't want to be standing on the bridge above it when it goes down unless you want to be drenched. We didn't go on this ride. There were several rides we didn't go on, but that was ok. We still did a lot.

The last attraction we went to was called Adventure's Club. Again with the backtracking to find it. It's the reason I got so sore. It was painful to walk yesterday and I'm still sore today. It's a walkthrough attraction, and you have to find seven hidden keys. I found most of them. The keys are shaped into letters and at the exit they spell out "Imagine."

Before we left the park, I wanted to go in the gift shop near the entrance. It was a madhouse in there because it was close to closing. I ended up coming out of there with two Lego sets. One was a Star Wars A-Wing and the other a set from The Lego Movie, with Unikitty. :) I might try building one of those today.

So I had a fun time at Legoland, it was worth the visit. Maybe not worth the price though, which is insane. Being sore and sunburnt is not fun. I've been tired, but hopefully I'll be back to normal soon.

Before we went to Legoland, the night before, we went out to dinner at the Italian restaurant Peppinos. That's where I got my gifts. My mom got me half of what I wanted, the other half doesn't come out until August. So, I got Bioshock Infinite and American McGee's Alice: The Madness Returns. I'm still hooked on Fallout: New Vegas however, so I won't be playing those any time soon. The other thing I got was a wallet from Grammy. It's OK looking, you can't really expect an attractive looking wallet coming from her. But it's purpose is more important to me than looks. I also got a card from my brother and Kourtnei. The other two things that will come next month are blu-rays of Hercules and Tarzan.

That's it. Long post. Another good birthday for me.
