Jeezikah Got Married, Part II: The Dinner

Jun 19, 2008 14:26

Chris’s parents graciously hosted the rehearsal dinner at Jess’s parents house. Despite the heat, it was a wonderful, wonderful evening of white tents and BBQ and drinking.

The plate closest to the camera was mine, and was the first full solid meal I had had since coming off the master cleanse. So much for raw and organic.

My lover, my friend, and white wine.

In the foreground, Chris’s brother and my bridal party date David, and his brother-in-law- Matt.

We are INTENSE.

Wouldn’t be Damon without one of these.

I was advised to prepare a “roast and/or toast” to the rehearsal dinner, which I haphazardly did. Even though I had plenty of material (of the toast persuasion, not so much the roast), I was still hoping I wasn’t going to have to speak in front of a bunch of people. I don’t know why - I’ve danced, acted, and sang in front of thousands of people, but saying something heartfelt in front of a hundred makes me weak in the knees. But Jess and Chris mean too much to me NOT to say anything. So I mustered up some liquid courage and pretty much drunkenly gave a mini-speech that I don’t remember. I read from an original 2002 journal entry that I had written when Jess and Chris met, which got a resounding “awwwwww,” so I think it was a success.

I probably drank my weight in white wine.
