Jeezikah Got Married: Part I

Jun 19, 2008 11:00

The day I moved into my tiny single dorm room at Teter-Wissler 3, we had a meeting to get acquainted with everyone on the floor. The RA had come up with one of those "get to know you" games, where each person had a Disney character written on a piece of paper, and you had to go around the room and find your match. I can’t remember if we were Ariel and Prince Eric, Aladdin and Jasmine, or something equally ridiculous, but I was paired up with this girl from Pittsburgh, PA named Jessica. We immediately became friends and decided to move into the notorious Villas sophomore year. Jess met a shy business major from Georgia named Chris who lived a few doors down. Through some awkward beginnings, they started dating, and through fate, they fell in love. A few weekends ago, they got married. I had the honor of witnessing it.

I drove Damon, my date, and also my boyfriend, on the six-hour haul to Pittsburgh. We arrived around 10p and Damon did what he does best…

Yes, those are two double beds, because the Procrastination Queen booked her room so late. It was very Dick Van Dyke Show of me. This gift basket, filled with welcoming Pittsburghian goodies, said “Welcome.”

Friday, the day before the wedding, I had the very important bridesmaid duty of getting my nails and toes done. Here is Chris’s mom, Jenna (Chris’s sister), Kristen (Jess’s friend from high school), and Stephanie (Chris’s sister).

Here is Jess, gellin’

And here she is with her mom Paula and grandmother.

I had heard these funny stories about Jess’s grandma through the years, so I was more amused than shocked by anything she said. When we told her the bridesmaid’s dresses were strapless, she proclaimed, “Well, it’s fortunate that all the girls have such BEAUTIFUL BREASTS!” Luckily, I think she liked me, as she told Jess, “That redhead seems like she’d be a lot of fun.”

My parents drove in that Friday, and my dad snapped these shots when I met them in the hotel lobby. I’m posting these as a reminder to myself that I need to dress up more because I have fun doing it…

We hopped onto the party bus and headed to the church for the rehearsal.

Can we talk about my tan for a second? I got a spray-tan in Fishers for $25 two days before the wedding. I wasn’t orange, but this is definitely not the color I turn when I tan naturally. It threw me off every time I looked in the mirror. I always imagined bridesmaids MUST have tans, and I imagined the entire bridal party all bronzed up and glowy, which is why I got it, but this bridal party was gorgeously un-tanned. Oops.

Annie and I, who coached (and sometimes laughed at) Jess and Chris’s relationship from Day One.

Showin’ some shoulder in the Church at the rehearsal…

The boys get schooled on wedding procedure…

The beautiful interior of St. Bernard.

Samantha, Jess’s beautiful cousin and flower girl!

Maid of Honor and Best Man

I think I saw this scene in Catholic School many times…

No Giggling in Church!

Godliness makes you blurry.

Pew View.

Nick, whose mustache that evening I still cannot explain, pops the bubbly.

The lovely Kristen!

Cheers!
