Out with the old, in with the new

I'm at home with a cold and am tired of working, so maybe I'll update.

I worked 18 hours Monday day through Tuesday morning (not counting lunch and dinner breaks). I'm showing signs of the overload because on Tuesday night, I was using the ATM machine to transfer money between savings and my checking account--and I walked away with the card still in the machine. No one has taken money out of my account, so the machine must have kept the card. Nonetheless, the old card was canceled and a new card is on order. Kind of a pain.

I don't know if I mentioned that I'm refinancing again. The loan officer who arranged my home equity loan worked out a deal in which the appraiser wouldn't have to come in for the inspection. I said okay if I didn't have to do anything. However, the paperwork that I faxed for the home equity loan is missing. The loan officer was calling me at all my phone numbers and e-mailing me as well, and I had to tell him to back off. Now he's e-mailing me every day, but at least he isn't calling.

My birthday (Wednesday) was low-key, but pleasant. I decided to go to my usual Alexander Technique lesson and then go to a movie. I ran late for my Alexander lesson because I had to run to the bank to get a temporary ATM card. I made it to the lesson (in fact, my teacher wasn't there yet), but as we started, I realized how incredibly tense I was. I felt as if my body wanted to get up and run and do the next thing. I mentioned the tension, and my teacher said that she was glad that I was starting to notice it. She said that I have been getting progressively less tense each lesson, but to me I was the most tense that I had ever been. I did try to relax (nice oxymoron). At the end of the lesson, I was practicing getting in and out of a chair, and something clicked, and the motion was the smoothest that it ever has been. So I'm learning something, although I'm not sure what.

Afterwards, I saw Lost in Translation. It is excellent. Go see it if you like low-key movies that have a lot of dialogue. It was one of the only movies that are out right now that interested me, but it turned out to be an inspired choice. After the movie, I spent a while walking around the parking lot, finishing my soda, mulling over the movie, and not wanting to leave.

Thursday, I had my Pilates lesson. Thursday was also when my cold hit, but I figured that I really couldn't cancel unless I was too sick to get out of bed. I had a tough time finding the studio. It's small, and very low-key. It makes me think of someone's living room, if someone's living room had Pilates and Gyrotonic equipment. There isn't a locker room; you change in the bathroom. The lesson was interesting. The woman who owns the studio is my teacher. First, she checked over my paperwork, and is excited that I might want to take dance classes some time. (She's a former dancer. I seem to be lucking out in getting teachers with the same interests; my Alexander Technique teacher is studying voice.) Then she checked my posture (alignment). Apparently one of my feet is flat and one is over-arched, so they tilt to the right. (Mom--I got it backwards.) My left hip juts out. I'm also round-shouldered and my head is forward, but I knew that already. After she checked me over, we worked on a series of exercises, including some asymmetrical work, to work on the specific posture problems. To me, that justified the expense of the private lessons because I wouldn't get such individualized instruction in a class.

I started wondering if custom orthotics might help my posture. A podiatrist on eBay is selling custom orthotics for only $100, so I decided to order them and give it a shot.

This weekend is going to be hectic. Saturday, I need to tear the place apart looking for the missing loan papers. I also need to put up a shelf and organize the area around my dining table. I also need to assemble the spinner rack for CDs, video tapes, and DVDs that I bought. I also need to finish some stuff for work (if I don't finish it tonight) and go into work to run a book. I also need to go to Kinkos and fax the loan paperwork. Sunday, I want to go swimming for the first time in umpteen years at the Y. Then I'm meeting a friend in the City for dinner (assuming we get in touch with each other).

I also need to take Random into the vet somewhere along the line. He's lost a ton of fur and looks awful. I also need to go to Kaiser for a fasting blood test. But neither is going to happen this weekend.
