Note: I slept for fifteen minutes and woke up.
Nico won’t admit it to anyone but it’s obvious he’s fond of Percy Jackson and that he’s so in like with him. Persephone knows because she can tell by how the sullen darkness over Nico turns a little bright, and whenever she asks about Percy she swears Nico’s voice takes on a more cheery tune and his face slightly darkens with red. Almost like a girl but she’ll never say that to his face.
On the rare occasions Nico brings him down to the Underworld, Percy actually makes an effort to talk to Persephone. There’s a rising sensation in her body that warms her and she puts it off as being happy to finally have someone else to talk to, who actually listens and she can laugh around.
Those visits never last long so she looks forward to spring and summer more. She can relax among gardens and talk to Percy without ghosts hovering about.
She keeps letting herself go and even though she tells herself not to, all she has in her head is Percy and she wants him for herself.
(She becomes jealous of Nico but she holds it down.)
One day Hades just tells her what’s she’s been expecting him to say. He knows everything and she knows he’s not stupid to what she feels.
He tells her, if she really wants Percy so badly, honestly needs him, then all she has to do is say yes. He’ll bring him to the Underworld and force feed him the seeds of a pomegranate. They’ll make sure he can never leave.
She almost says yes without thinking.
He can be with her, in the Underworld, and eventually he will love her like she already does him. He’ll be hers forever.
But then she thinks of Nico and Percy and tells herself I can’t.
She can’t bring herself to do it to Percy, to Nico. She wants Percy to be happy and even though her soul wants her to be selfish she just can’t.
She can’t even tell Hades no so she just walks away.
The day Percy kisses Nico is the day Persephone’s chest cracks and she wonders how long she’ll last before she tells Hades yes.
