*flails for the Family*

Can I just preface this by saying that any SciFi Friday becomes uber-awesome when it is experienced with Barcardi O and permissionslip? Kind of like when that Cylon baby commercial ran halfway through the episode.

Also, Jerry Bruckheimer's music tastes just made that baby toaster cry. ("This might jus tbe the number one party song of all time!")

SG-1: Ripple Effect

Yeah, I think the actual moral of this episode is that SAM AND JACK HAVE GOTTEN MARRIED AND PROCREATED VIA SEXUAL RELATIONS IN EVERY SINGLE UNIVERSE EXCEPT FOR OUR OWN.

That is just mean.

But anyway, JANET!! DANIEL/JANET!! I broke my capslock just thinking about it.

BSG: Epiphanies

Okay, have you ever noticed that episodes after really intense two-parters usually aren't very good as the ones they come before? "Litmus" tries and falls short after Kara's guilt trip; "Fragged" is eh after the massive intensity of KLG and Cylons on Galactica; "Final Cut" felt weird, and now THIS. On the other hand, these episodes are still MASSIVELY IMPORTANT when it comes to plot points: "Litmus" basically seems like Sharon's last hurrah before her slow descent into Cylon-hood begins; "Fragged" recuses everyone from Kobol; "Final Cut" introduces us to a new Cylon.

That being said, this episode was not actually that bad! If it were ATLANTIS or STAR TREK, it would have been FAB and a fan-favorite and everyone would be writing essays about the keen metaness inherent in the script-- whatever. I would even like to venture into uncharted territory by saying that I DON'T KNOW if much else could have been done with this situation. The series is awesome at building tension and though I may have flailed a lot, I never rationally believed that death would befall Laura Roslin. (I would actually like to meet someone who did not expect her to be saved somehow.) I think that when your show has robots and one of the main, very important characters has been stricken with a terrible disease, a deus ex machina IS THE ONLY WAY to keep this character alive. Or maybe I'm so used to technobabble about pattern buffers and alternate universes (fluent since 1995!) that MIRACLE CYLON BABY BLOOD isn't really that difficult to believe. After all, THIS IS SCI FI, and RDM worked on Star Trek for HOW LONG prior to this?

I actually think that it would have been awesome to have named this episode "Deus ex Machine."
a) Acknowledges what it truly is
b) Brings the whole Cylons-love-pseudo-Christianity thing
c) I don't know, I never liked the word "epiphany" partially because... okay, there actually isn't a third reason

I am still hoping that at some point we get to see Adama dealing with Mom's cancer-- or, rather, her lack of cancer these days. I kind of felt like this scene didn't make it into this last episode! Let's hope he throws her a small "congrats on not dying" party or something.

In conclusion, I was pretty damned sure that Kat had said "fuck" in reference to the quality of Kara's lateness, as opposed to, well, you know. Heh.

battlestar galactica, ep reaction, stargate
