This week's classic movie report

On Sunday we saw Some Like it Hot at the Prytania. I had never seen it before, and I usually dont like movies that involve pretending to be another gender (this includes the 80's movie 'Just One of the Guys' as well as 'Ladybugs') because of the inevitable "reveal" scene where they get caught, and the ensuing on-screen scene is shameful. awkward, and embarrassing for the character, which then makes me uncomfortable in person. Awkward and embarrassing is not something I like witnessing, even if it *is* fictional. This even goes for Mrs Doubtfire, which I will watch up until the dinner scene which contains the reveal, then I'll turn it off (because there's nothing really funny after that point any way).

But Some Like it Hot never had that scene. They never really had *any* scenes where the characters came close to getting caught, and the final reveal scene that should have been embarrassing is actually one of the best punchlines in the entire movie. So the lack of awkwardness, shame, and embarrassment, combined with some really funny material, make Some Like it Hot a great movie.
