Friday I drove to Baton Rouge to take part in a fantasy football draft party. My friend Taylor hosted it, and I got to meet his wife for the first time. They had a great house, and I really liked his wife. The food was good, both Friday night (grilled chicken) and Saturday morning (Boudin Biscuits). The draft itself began at noon on Saturday and was decent, but could have gone better. About 3 different times I *just* missed my targeted pick with someone taking him just one or two picks before me. This can be common in the early rounds, but someone really stole my 4th WR???
In the middle of the draft I had to leave to get back to New Orleans for the first pre-season game. Dont worry, I was able to continue drafting from my iPhone, and I'm fairly sure I didnt kill anyone while driving at 80mph trying to navigate one of the most poorly designed websites in history to make my draft picks.
While the Saints game was just pre-season, and thus doesnt matter at all, there were two reasons I wanted to go to it: 1) First game back in the Dome in 7 months, and the first back in the Dome since the Superbowl. I figured it would be a crazy party, and almost feel like a regular season game, and I was right. There was not an empty seat in the Dome. For a pre-season game! Also, 2) Champions Square. An old shopping center that had been boarded up since Katrina was torn down, and in its place, they built a large open square, with a stage, and food vendors... but not just any food vendors. NEW ORLEANS food vendors- actual restaurants like Dragos and Dickie Brennans. I had a BBQ Shrimp PoBoy that was awesome. And it was "only" $8. I say "only" because Nachos or HotDogs inside the Dome are $7 each. So paying an extra $1 for fancy restaurant-quality food is great.
To be Continued, to give Sunday its own entry instead of burying it at the bottom here.
