Tonight my parents and I went out for a meal for my father's birthday. We went to the
Old House Restaurant in Copthorne. It's the most posh restaurant, or place even, that I've ever been to in my entire life.
For starters, there was the lounge bar. The only bad thing about it is that it has low ceilings. We were given drinks and menus and chose our food. Then we were ushered into the dining area where the tables were immaculately laid out, though this was nothing new for me. Next was the big surprise for me, the waiter unfolded my napkin and laid it on my lap. I just gaped, astounded. I've never been so curteously treated.
Anyway, that passed and our food came. It was like a picture. Normally, you look at a picture of a plate of food, then you get the actual food and you think, "Hey, that looks nothing like the picture." But in this case, the food is the picture. The presentation was no less than perfect. I wish I had taken my camera, though doubtless there was no flash photography allowed. Everything the waitors/waitresses did was so graceful and time was taken to make sure that everything was perfect. Even the pouring of the wine was a pleasant act to watch. I felt that by eating the food I was damaging the perfection.
However, such pampering comes at a cost. For the three of us the meal and drinks (we had desserts and coffees as well as a bottle of wine with the meal) came to £147. Not something you do every day, but definately worth a try if you feel stressed or just want to celebrate in style.
