The Golden Globes...

Jan 12, 2015 00:10

The awards season in inching to a close. With most critics association awards being given and last night’s Golden Globes we’re left with the BAFTAs and the Oscars.

The Golden Globes and the BAFTAs are generally indicators on who will win the Oscar. If this holds true then that means we know who will take home the big award.

The Normal Heart

*Beautiful and heart-wrenching film. I don’t believe that a film can only be written and/or directed by someone who has experience or is a part of the community/culture that is the subject. But I think if a writer/director has personal insight it makes the film that much richer. So I think it is the best that Barbra Streisand’s decades long pursuit to make a film version of “The Normal Heart” didn’t happen. One of the complaints Larry Kramer had was that she wanted to do away with the intimacy and wanted the Julia Roberts’ character to be the focus of the film thus taking TNH from a film about a group of gay men struggling for answers in the early stage of the AIDS plague to a film about a scientist searching for a cure. If that happened these exquisite performances from everyone in the cast wouldn’t have existed.

~But let’s not pretend we’re here for the awards. It’s all about

Loved It
Felicity Jones in Dior
*My absolute fave look of the night. So simple and demure but lovely.

Kelly Osbourne in Georges Chakra
I love the capped arms. Nice navy color.

Diane Kruger in Emilia Wickstead
*It’s pretty basic, but she wears it well.

Jessica Chastain in Versace
*Gorgeous. Cooper on cooper.

**If it was really true that she could only stomp for “Instellar” than Christopher Nolan did her dirty because she was smashing in “The Most Violent Year” and underused and annoying in “Interstellar”.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Muhad
*This dress is fiyah!

Quvenzhané Wallis in Armani.

Lorde in Narcisco Rodriguez
*I’m a fan of pants and pantsuits. I love how she made it a chic look.

I also liked Miley Cyrus’ look from another event

Ana DuVernay in Zac Posen
*It’s beautiful and I love how she wraps her locs. But if she’s wearing a cape it just adds to the look.

Zosia Mamet in Andrew Gn

Jemima Kirke

Felicity Huffman in Lorena Sarbu

Emily Blunt in Michael Kors

Jessica Parker Kennedy (Plastique, SV) in Pamela Roland

Keira Knightley in Chanel
*Goodness help me I actually like this Holly Hobbie look.

How it looks on the runway

*Her BAFTA dress was actually worse because it’s so plain.

Emma Stone in Lanvin

Sienna Miller in Mui Mui

Viola Davis in Donna Karen Atelier

Hated It
Rosamund Pike in Vera Wang
It looks ill-fitting. Cut-out dresses should be cinched in.

*Her BAFTA tea dress was better.

Gina Rodriguez in Badgley and Mischka
I think the fringe at the bottom killed the look. Maybe if it were shorter like a flapper dress it would work.

Her BAFTA tea outfit was just as unfortunate

Laura Prepon in Cristian Siriano
*If this is the output there is little wonder why there hasn’t been a real fashion star to come out of “Project Runway”. She looks like the madame of a Goth whorehouse.

Lupita N’yongo in Giambattista Valli
*Misfire! Love the flowers in the bodice and that is all. Not her hair, not her makeup, not the design of the dress. Nada.

Kate Mara in Miu Miu
*I honestly gave a pained groan when I saw the belt.

Ruth Wilson in Prada
*Love the colors but that’s it. It’s no good to just have dazzling color. The design should be as bold.

Tina Fey

Melissa McCarthy wearing her own design
*I love the top, the bottom is a mess. She should’ve just gone Annie Hall and either wore palazzo pants or tuxedo pants.

The Others
Michelle Monaghan in Jason Wu
*Shapeless and boring.

Reese Witherspoon in Calvin Klein
*So basic it hurts.

Patricia Arquette in Escada
*Patricia either need to embrace her curves or just wear a dress with a wrap or caplet. She’s short and busty and that accentuates that she’s heavier than in the past. But that bow and the crease in the dress doesn’t help.

These looks work

Amy Poehler in Stella McCartney

Amy Adams in Versace

Catherine Zeta-Jones in Angel Sanchez

Anna Faris in Reem Acra

Alison Tolman

Amal Alamuddin Clooney

Alison Williams in Armaini Prive

Naomi Watts in Gucci

Julianne Moore in Givenchy

Lena Dunham in Zac Posen

Katie Cassidy in Mikael D

Katie Holmes in Marchesa

Dakota Johnson in Chanel
*She needs to ditch that dull brown and return to blonde. I’m waiting for Carrie to step out from under her dress and get drenched in blood.

How it looks on the runway

Greer Grammer, Ms. Golden Globes and daughter of Kelsey n in Lorraine Sarbu

Heidi Klum in Versace

Claire Danes in Valentino

Salma Hayek in Alexander McQueen

Leslie Mann in Kaufman FRanco

Taryn Manning

Robin Wright in Ralph Lauren

TJ Miller of “Silicon Valley”
*TJ and Ed Skrein, the best Daario Naharis of GoT may be in “Deadpool” film starring Ryan Reynolds.

*The hair is terrible.

Kate Beckinsale in Elie Saab

Kerry Washington in Mary Katrantzou

Maggie Gyllenhaal in Miu Miu

Ellie Kemper in Naeem Khan

Anna Kendricks in Monique Lhuillier

Kate Hudson in Versace
*She doesn’t have to act she just has to work out, apparently. Her body is killer and she knows how to flaunt it.

**Kate is friends with Julianne Hough. Julianne challenged her friends to a dance off during Thanksgiving and each person had to post a vid. The Hudson/Hawn/Russell family posted theres.
