BAFTAs, The Oldest Rebel....

Feb 10, 2013 17:05

Holy crap, the awards season is still trudging along. Make it stop! Thankfully now that the BAFTAs are done we are truly on the road to Oscar and the end (finally) to awards season. Until then.

Adapted Screenplay
Chris Terrio - "Argo"
Benh Zeitlin & Lucy Alibar - "Beasts of the Southern Wild"

David Magee - "Life of Pi"
Tony Kushner - "Lincoln"
WINNER: David O Russell - "Silver Linings Playbook"

*I’ve finally seen “Silver Linings Playbook” and I don’t get all the hubbub. Not only do I think it wasn’t that great of a film it’s not even the best David O’ Russell film.

David O, Bradley Cooper and Robert DeNiro were on “Katie” talking about O’Russell’s son and his bipolar disorder which he got the idea for the film. The clip quickly made the rounds on the interwebs because Robert DeNiro cries when asked about relating to the role. What got me wasn’t so much Bobby’s tears, but seeing Cooper trying to hold it together watching DeNiro cry.

At the 1:55 mark

Everyone thinks he was just touched by the O’Russell’s son’s plight, but allegedly DeNiro’s 13-year old son Elliot is autistic.

Elliott and Bobby D

DeNiro and his wife Grace adopted a baby last year. That makes child number six for DeNiro. He has 36-year old Raphael, 40-year old stepdaughter Drena with Diahann Abbott, 18-year old twin boys Aaron and Julian with former model/actress Toukie Smith; Elliott and 1 ½ years old Helen Grace with Grace Hightower. DeNiro has said in an interview that he likes having all his children together so he bought out apartments in his same building so everyone could be around each other.

DeNiro wrote a piece in The Daily Beast last year about his artist father. It’s a nice little piece of himself where he talks about how they loved each other but weren’t as close as he wanted and because of that he urges his kids to have an open dialogue with him because there were things he wanted to know about his father’s life but felt he couldn’t have that conversation or was just too busy being a kid to spend time with his dad.

Henry Cavill and Gina Carano doing it up
*on their way

*It’s believed that Henry and Gina were introduced by Gina’s “Fast and the Furious 6” co-star and Henry’s “Immortals” costar/friend Luke Evans.

His “Man of Steel” costar Amy Adams there in support of “The Master”

Joaquin Phoenix looking ragged like Mel Gibson

Jennifer Lawrence who wisely decided, “It’s raining; I’m covering up.”

Evil Hugh Jackman

Bradley Cooper

Chris Tucker

I love that Damien Lewis wears colors

And dances Gangnam Style

“Game of Thrones” Natalie Dormer
*Initially I wrote the dress off, but I love the deep champagne color. It looks comfortable and she sells it well.

Eddie Redmayne and his ridiculous cheekbones

Plain Jane Jennifer Garner

Gemma Atherton and Hayley Atwell

The fashion Queen, Helen Mirren
*Rack-tacular.

Helena Bonham Carter and Tim Burton

Samuel L. Jackson wearing a hat like the Honorable Elijah Mohammad

Dapper Simon Pegg

Sally Fields kissing her Oscar dreams goodbye

“Life of Pi” costar Rafe Spall

Paloma Faith, whoever that is.

What are these people thinking? She looks like a showgirl on the old Vegas strip

I don’t get why the sheer hybrid dress is all the rage now

Elizabeth Olsen

Marion Cotillard
*I wish I could get a better sense of the sheer portion of her dress. Does it go all around? Is it high?

On Friday James Dean would’ve been 82-years old. When you think of timeless icons Dean is right there. His mystique is unbelievable. I’ve never seen a James Dean film and have seen maybe only two videos: the PSA he did about driving safety (whomp, whomp) and some other thing and that’s it. My love for him came strictly from articles and books.

I can see why the ladies and men loved him

Dean playing drunk with the woman he was seeing when he died.

Dean and Ursula Andress

Who is she giving the eye to?

Ursula still has it (with her son w/ Harry Hamlin, Dmitri)

with Pier Angeli

*There’s still talk about Dean’s sexuality. When Liz Taylor accepted a GLAAD award she mentioned the gay men in her life and she listed Dean along with Montgomery Clift and Rock Hudson. Others like former girlfriend (who claimed they were engaged at one point) Liz Sheridan said he was bisexual.

That’s right, Jerry Seinfeld’s mom on ‘Seinfeld” was nailing James Dean that lucky wench.

Dean was very athletic

Obviously. But he got a draft exception during the Korean War. The popular belief was that he was a conscientious objector due to being a Quaker, another was that he had bad eyesight. But the town rumor was that the minister Dean spent time with (exactly what you would think that meant) wrote a letter asking for the exception.

Eartha Kitt was his dance teacher and friend

I can imagine she was a amazing teacher. She probably tore the room apart.

Werk, Eartha, Werk!

James was a hobbyist but moved on as quickly as he picked up on things.

Like sculpting

And chess

He did 4H in school and helped out on the family farm

I took for granted that Dean left behind family including his aunt and uncle (who raised him after his mother died and father sent him off) and his cousin Markie.

Markie and James

And they lost him
