Cult

- There is television...and there is the world we live in. In the shadows where they meet, there is Cult. In this visceral thriller from the creator of Farscape and the producers of Chuck, a bright and driven reporter teams up with an inquisitive television researcher to investigate a series of disturbing disappearances all tied to a wildly popular new television show called...Cult. With everyone a suspect and no one to trust but each other, the two follow an obscure trail of tantalizing clues in an effort to find the reporter's missing brother, a rabid fan of the show who unlocked the secret at the heart of the series-and seemingly paid the price. Moving from the real world into the labyrinthine world of the series and its two characters-a detective and a charismatic cult leader-events inside the show begin to bleed into the outside world and vice versa as the certainty of what's real and what's illusion crumbles into dust. Cult stars Matt Davis (The Vampire Diaries), Jessica Lucas (Cloverfield), Alona Tal (Supernatural), and Robert Knepper (Prison Break) and is executive produced by Rockne S. O'Bannon (Farscape), Josh Schwartz (Chuck), Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl), Len Goldstein (Hart of Dixie), and Jason Ensler (Chuck). Ballroom 20

*”Teen Wolf” feels like a show I would watch if it were on the CW. I can’t bring myself to watch MTV shows anymore. I don’t watch it so I’m surprised by all the online love Colton Hayes get. I was sure this would be the time Tyler Posey would blow up. He’s cuter than Colton, IMO.

But Colton is not without his charms. He posted pics of him with his nephew.

Baby love

Maybe Colton is broody. He did have a Twitter baby with Tyler Posey.

2:30-3:30 Comics Arts Conference Session #4: The Dark Knight Rises: Is Batman Broken?- He's strong, smart, and heroic. He's the Dark Knight we want on our side, but is Batman also out of his mind? Caught between Catwoman and Bane as Christopher Nolan's Batman movie trilogy comes to its end, will Batman break? Psychologists Travis Langley (Batman and Psychology: A Dark and Stormy Knight) and Robin Rosenberg (The Psychology of Superheroes, What's the Matter with Batman?) discuss Bruce Wayne's relationships, strengths, weaknesses, and potential diagnoses and ask executive producer Michael Uslan (The Dark Knight Rises), comic book writers Len Wein (Batman) and Steve Englehart (Detective Comics), and Catwoman herself, actress Lee Meriwether (Batman: The Movie), exactly how healthy it is for an orphaned billionaire to spend his nights fighting crime while dressed like a bat. Does the Dark Knight have bats in his belfry? Room 26AB

This really is some nerd sh*t but I love thinking about the psychology of Batman which is one of the reasons I loved “The Dark Knight” and the Batfamily in general. I think his “kids” are the only tether Bruce has to sanity.

I wish he spent time with others like the Teen Titans and other heroes do.

After years of searching, Catherine finally discovers the beast is Vincent Keller (Ryan), a survivor of a military experiment that went disastrously wrong and left him in hiding to lead a secret life. Join the cast and producers for an exclusive viewing of the first episode, followed by a panel discussion moderated by Dalton Ross (assistant managing editor, Entertainment Weekly). Ballroom 20

Series creator Adam Reed (Sealab 2021) and the show's voice actors discuss their daunting and enigmatic work of espionage, reconnaissance missions, wiretapping, and undercover surveillances-which are all actually unmitigated occasions for the ISIS staff to undermine, sabotage, and betray each other for personal gain. Jon Benjamin (Bob's Burgers) as the highly skilled yet incredibly vain master spy "Sterling Archer," Aisha Tyler (The Talk) as Archer's fellow agent and ex-girlfriend "Lana Kane," Chris Parnell (Saturday Night Live) as the easily intimidated comptroller-turned-ISIS-agent "Cyril Figgis," Judy Greer (Arrested Development) as the loquacious secretary "Cheryl Tunt," and Amber Nash (Frisky Dingo) as the discordant director of human resources for ISIS "Pam Poovey." Indigo Ballroom, Hilton San Diego Bayfront

**Aisha Tyler had to school people on Facebook after she was flamed for hosting a gaming convention. The guys (come on, we know they were all men) complained that she didn’t know anything about gaming and that she only did it for the money, because she’s a woman! Of course she doesn’t game.

Excerpts of Aisha going in on them in 3, 2, 1..

I play. I've played since I was a little kid. Since I begged my dad to buy me a Nintendo LCD Donkey Kong, Jr.Since I blew through three weeks' allowance playing Defender at the laundromat. Since you were a twinge in the left side of your daddy's underoos. I've been a gamer since I made friends with a girl in the 5th grade just to get at her Atari. Since I missed the bus playing Galaga after school. Since I missed the start of Return of the Jedi playing Tempest in the theater lobby.
You think you know. You don't know.

I've been a gamer since before you could read. Since I aced midterms after staying up all night playing Evil Tetris. Since I became dorm champ at Leisure Suit Larry. Since I double-wielded on Time Crisis 3 at Fuddrucker's. I was a voice in not one, but two major video game titles. I hosted the Reach Beta tutorial.
I was a Gears of War superfan panelist at ComicCon. I hosted the Ubisoft presser at E3 2012.
I didn't do any of it for the money. For most I got paid next to nothing, and for some, less than that.
I did it because I love video games.

I love wearing my gamer pride on my sleeve. People ask me what console I play.
Motherfucker, ALL of them. I get invited to E3 because real gamers know I'm a gamer.
I don't do it for the money. I have plenty of money. I don't do it for the fame.
Fuck fame. I do it because I love video games.

I've been playing my whole life. I'm not ashamed of it. I don't apologize for it.
It's who I am. To the core. I'm a gamer. So to all the haters out there who claim I don't play;
To the GAF dicks, Gamespot trolls, To every illiterate racist douchebag on Youtube:
Flame away. Go nuts. Post every jackass comment your heart desires. I'll still be playing when your mom's kicked you out of her basement and you have to sell your old-ass console and get a real job.

For now, I say to you respectfully,
and I mean this from the bottom of my heart,
GFYS (Go Fuck Yourself).

Game advantage, Aisha!

I’m not sure, but I think this has been Showtime’s longest running series. I have to check on that.)

6:00-7:00 Rewriting the Rules of Queers in Comics- Depictions of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender characters in comics are breaking from the purely positive "role model" portrayals that were common over the past decade. Some creators aren't shying away from sex, stereotypes, and bad behavior in their pursuit of intriguing and well-rounded characters. As comics readers clamor for more explicit, more outrageous, and more extreme comics-and hail them as victories over timidity and political correctness-is it time to rewrite the rulebook on queer characters? Oliver Nome (Fathom: Kiani), James Robinson (Earth 2, Justice League), Nicola Scott (Earth 2, Secret Six), Gail Simone (Secret Six, Birds of Prey), Ivan Velez Jr. (Tales of the Closet, Milestone Comics), and moderator Charles "Zan" Christensen (The Mark of Aeacus, The Power Within) engage in a lively, irreverent discussion about the wild frontier of queers in comics. Room 32AB

*There’s been much talk of a gay major character in the DCU. IMO it was a switcheroo. Yes, it’s a big deal that a Green Lantern is gay---Alan Scott. But the small print is that it’s part of Earth Two, which is an alternate universe. Everything that is going on in Earth Two comics: Clark Kent being nearly burned alive and an African American Superman stepping in for him and Alan Scott being gay is Elseworlds fodder. And the issue that introduced Alan being gay is the same issue he lost his man.

And his boyfriend was cute, too.

I think drunken sex between Lanterns don’t count.
*Kyle is such a pushy bottom.

but there has been major gay characters in the DCU. I think people need to stop thinking of major as the Big 7 in the Justice League. I think characters who have their own titles like Batwoman Kathy Kane or people who have been in tales for years are major characters like Renee Montoya, Pied Piper Hartley Rathaway and Starman II.

Starman's short lived love with boyfriend Tony. DC’s first gay kiss.

8:00-9:30 Zombies, Vampires, and Werewolves on Trial: The Forensic Psychiatry of the Dead, the Undead, and the Unlucky- Zombies, vampires, and werewolves are the most terrifying monsters to stalk the night. But what if these monsters existed in real life and actually stood trial for their murderous crimes? Would they be found guilty and put behind bars, or would they be found not guilty by reason of insanity and committed to a psychiatric hospital? Would they even be competent to stand trial? Forensic psychiatrists of Broadcast Thought, H. Eric Bender, M.D., Praveen R. Kambam, M.D., and Vasilis K. Pozios, M.D. evaluate whether the "conditions" that plague these bloodsuckers, flesh-eaters, and wild beasts might serve as the basis for an insanity defense. Hear Mark E. Safarik, M.S., V.S.M., FBI Ret., supervisory special agent, Behavioral Analysis Unit (Killer Instinct), compare the behaviors of these characters to real-life bloodsucking and flesh-eating killers. *Watching Gina on “Suits” made me want to watch “Hercules” again. I caught my favorite episode “Stranger and Stranger” where Hercules is sent to a Bizarro land where Ares is the god of love and Nebula is a tyrannical, yet still hot leader.

Fierce!

*I watched Mun2’s trailers for their series about being Latino in Hollywood and which they talked to Gina, Judy Reyes of “Scrubs”, Tatyana Ali of “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” and Laz Alonso. Very eye-opening in terms of the pushback from casting agents who think they know what makes a person Latino.

And Laz wore this so I love him just a bit more than I did before.
