What I'm Watching, Movies I've Seen...

~You, okay I, may not have “Gossip Girl” to kick around much longer. At the TCAs and in a recent Hollywood Reporter which celebrated the show’s 100th episode, one of the producers said that seeing that the cast’s contracts expire next year, season six may be the show’s last and with that in mind “that feels like probably an organic ending point.”

“Gossip Girl” possibly bowing out at season 6, “One Tree Hill’ at season 9. C’mon “Supernatural”, don’t go ten seasons!

THR insert about the 100th episode of “Gossip Girl”

Where the producers, writers and cast talk about the whirlwind success of the show and one EP almost acts as if they’re mourning the sweet little Taylor Momsen

I wonder why that is?

You can’t out “Dirrty” Xtina, child

“Gossip Girl” channels “Gentleman Prefer Blondes”

And some blondes prefer looking like they wash their hair in olive oil

*While Blake is seeing Ryan Reynolds, Penn Badgley is with someone infinitely more interesting.

Zoe Kravitz
*Rocking the ‘fro

Terrible CW onesheets from their TCA

90210

*I’m still loving my West Beverly babies even though I missed one or two episodes and I had no idea who several people on the show were. They go through a lot of recurring characters. Holy hell. Ivy returns from holiday with a dude? Liam returned from his trip with a woman, then she leaves and then he met another one who hit him with a car and they’re still together and running his bar. And the unbelievable part Annie is an escort…a paid one. They expect me to believe that anyone would pay her for sex? Okay. Next you’d ask me to believe that a kid who is a near stranger to them turned himself in for a crime he didn’t commit in order to save Annie even though the real criminal was trying to frame Annie’s own brother Dixon.

Oh, wait..that nonsense actually happened.

Supernatural

Dawn O might be gone but their terrible publicity department still exists

CW congratulates the show on their non-televised award

*Misha Collins is returning, but until then here’s a pic of the ashy mouthed angel from an upcoming “Ringer”

I didn’t know Bobby was the father of the Hardy boys!

“The Vampire Diaries”
*How much promotional material do they deserve?

Katherine or Elena? I’m confused.

So he’s here to stay?

*Another show I’ve missed a couple of episodes of. Just when it was becoming too boring (even getting rid of L’il J(eremy) didn’t perk me up) they do something amazing like having Klaus turn Caroline. The show excels at using music to enhance a scene. This scene where Klaus gives Caroline a “gift” of a new birth is darkly beautiful.

*The show is sexying itself up since the departure of Uncle Werewolf, Tyler Kinney. Robert Ri’chard (“One on One”, “House of Wax”) is coming to Mystic Falls as Jamie, a guy who has a connection to Bonnie’s mother Abby (Persia White).

Speaking of Uncle Werewolf, now that his relationship with Lady Gaga is out in the open,

…people are taking more of an interest in him. Taylor, like Lil Ian when he couldn’t stop talking about “Lost” even though he had been sh*tcanned from the show, keeps active on Twitter retweeting stuff from his TVD friends. Now people are repurposing old interviews like the one where he say he has a “man crush” on Lil Ian.

Don’t tell Nina

Aim higher, Taylor.

Taylor Kinney: I have a man crush on Ian.
Interviewer:I don’t think you’re alone in that.:
Taylor Kinney: We got to be pretty good buddies. We got to work with each other enough to where we learned each other’s ticks. As actors it’s always nice to meet somebody that you have that rapport with. You’re one step ahead of the other person. He’s a competitive guy, I’m a competitive guy. If you throw something in the air, we’re both going to try and shoot it. It’s just that whole game. I have a great time working with Ian, always.
In between tweets and being papped with this girlfriend, Taylor is working. Here he is in episode 9 of the webseries “Dating Rules from My Future Self”

at the 5 minute mark

And he appeared in two episodes of “Shameless” as a high school crush of Fiona (Emily Rossum).

The Secret Circle

*I caught one episode and it didn’t suck. Amazingly.

AfterElton did their weekly “Marry, Bed, Kill” and they stacked the deck on purpose erroneously.

Sorry Thomas

“Hart of Dixie”

I’m still loving it. It’s just comfort food. Rachel Bilson IMO continues to be the weakest link but that doesn’t take away from the enjoyment.

Rachel responds to her critics in the form of a rap video written by costar Wilson Bethel, AKA Poor Man’s Version of Justin Hartley.

*The show’s showrunner Leila Gorstein talked about Jusin Hartley’s impending arrival on the show.

THR: Justin Hartley is appearing as a potential love interest and war hero for Zoe in an upcoming episode. How does that affect everyone in town when he arrives?
Gerstein: Justin Hartley arrives in an extremely big episode: episode 18. It is an episode in which everything erupts and so he is a catalyst for a few different things. It's all I can say about that, but it is a really big episode. A lot of things are happening. He's a little mysterious, I would say.

Non CW Show
*At the insistence of the interwebs I’m caught up on “Sherlock”. Out of six episodes I think I liked two but when the two are as outrageously good as those, that’s not a bad average. The S2 premiere was perfect. And I knew after watching it that I would find the subsequent episodes a let down because it was sheer genius.

And no one thought to tell me that Rupert Graves was in the show. Everyone’s fired!

I could’ve been watching it from Day One had I known that (and the moment when he realizes Sherlock doesn’t know his first name? Hilarious.) I’ve loved Rupert since “Different for Girls”.

What’s “Different for Girls”? Why, it’s IMO one of the best rom-coms ever. It about man child Prentice (Graves) reuniting with his best mate, the straitlaced Karl (Steven Mackintosh of “Luther”), only now Karl has undergone sexual reassignment surgery and is now Kim. The two try to navigate their renewed friendship and grapple with their feelings about and for each other.

Prentice apologizes. 6:43 min in

Being Human (UK)
*I have to put this in my handy dandy spoiler page cos there’s spoilers ahoy.

*As one of the two most successful new ABC shows, the cast of “Revenge” is getting some notice.

In EW

And Glamour

Especially cheeky Josh Bowman

Josh was featured in Bello Mag, an online mag

They threw Connor Paolo a bone

*I wasn’t thrilled by the reveal that Charlotte is Amanda’s half- sister. That took the show into full-on soap opera mode. But I’m willing to deal with it when the show returns because they are bringing on the big guns. “Knots Landing”s William Devane as Conrad’s father

You can’t outbeat Greg Sumner, Victoria. You just can’t.

And “Rome”s James Purefoy as a love interest for Victoria. See what Victoria is going to be having fun with (NSFW link to Jamesstarkers in “Rome”

“Once Upon a Time” is also pumping up their star power. Barbara Hershey will appear as the Evil Queen’s mother and “Captain America”s Bucky, Sebastian Stan will guest star.

Bringing dark circles under the eyes to Storybrooke

And it was announced this afternoon that Roger Daltrey, THE Roger Daltrey will voice the caterpillar in its "Alice and Wonderland" themed episode "Hat Trick".

Shameless

The perfectly imperfect and borderline unlikeable Gallagher family is back for S2. It’s still a wildly entertaining show that is just so wrong on so many levels but funny without tipping over into being overly offensive.

Fiona is spiraling, Lip and Ian’s brotherly bond is being tested, Carl is getting even more odd and poor little Debbie is trying to keep it together while struggling with young womanhood.

I’m not looking forward to the return of Justin Chatwin’s character full time because I’m more interested in James Wolk’s character.

How you doin’, star of short-lived “Lone Star”?

Fitting in just fine

Two and a Half Men
Okay, I don’t watch this dreck, but it’s Ashton!!

Ashton Kutcher and Chuck Lorre

Ashton finally got rid of the hobo bohemian look

before the shed with friends, “That 70’s Show” costars Wilmer Valderama and Danny Masterson

Danny with Laura Prepon and Wilmer

While shedding his locks could mean Ashton is focusing on a new him, his soon-to-be ex-wife Demi is working through issues of her own.

*Demi Moore is going through some changes. It is believed that Demi accidentally OD’d a few weeks ago after self-medicating. She has now checked herself into a rehab facility.

Demi is getting it from all sides. First her husband cheats on her, then her followers on Twitter slam her for keeping her Twitter handle “Mrs. Kutcher”

What happened to them??

Then rumors of an eating disorder came out due to an interview conducted by her friend Amanda DeCadanet. Now people are saying that Demi has been trying to recapture youth by partying with her daughters, hence the drug use that landed her in rehab.

Let’s hope Scout isn’t partying that hard

*Know who else split? Chuck Lorre and Helen Bryce!

Yeah, I didn’t know they were dating either.

The New Girl
Still loving it though I’m surprised that Max Greenfield’s Schmidt has become the break out character on the show. I was putting my bet on Nick played by Jake Johnson. He’s fantastic but Schmidt is so ridiculous that he’s really edged him out.

Max with costar Hannah Simone

Show’s creator Liz Meriwether, Zooey and Jane Levy and creator of “Suburgatory” Emily Kapnek

Bad Sex
*It’s reality show that airs on Logo. It follows a sex therapist and his patients over an eight week period as they get counseling over their love lives, sex lives and how it impacts them.

What I like about the show is that they feature one patient at a time so you follow them from the beginning to the end instead of trying to cram a bunch of patient issues into one episode. It’s almost like a shifting perspective premise because as the episodes go on you see how some stories overlap. Like there was a guy who was a piggish online sex addict. Piggish not because of his addiction because of how he viewed women. Because he’s so used to dealing with women in an online context he would refer to them as b*tches and whores. Unfortunately, so many men and young men devolve into that mindset as they live in an online world and disassociate from women, treating them as inanimate objects built for their own satisfaction. He became interested in a woman in the therapy group who couldn’t stay monogamous so he zoomed in on her and wanted to get with her because he knew it’d be so easy. Then when you see her ep you see her POV on dealing with him and what she’s thinking about him.

I also love that the therapist, Chris Donaghue, comes from a sex-positive perspective so there’s no shaming.

And he wears short sleeve business shirts sometimes so he looks like a male stripper.

Glee
*Ryan Murphy goes back on his word? Hush your mouth! “Glee” has returned to tribute episodes after Ryan Murphy said he was going to retire them and stunt casting yet “Real Housewives of Atlanta” “star” Nene Leakes, Ricky Martin…

With one of his boys. He says he’s ready for a daughter now.

…Helen Mirren (Helen was a voiceover) , Brian Stokes Mitchell and Jeff Goldblum are appearing this season.

As Rachel’s fathers

*Imagine the chuckle I got when people at ONTD complained that Ryan retconned that Rachel had a Black father because going by the picture, many had no idea that Brian Stokes Mitchell is bi-racial.

And last week was the Michael Jackson tribute episode.

*I really can’t stand Kevin McHale but my being bothered that they have an able-bodied person in a wheelchair has nothing to do with my dislike for him (much). It’s just wrong. Then having him get out the wheelchair so he and Harry Shum Jr. could recreate (badly) MJ and Janet Jackson’s “Scream” was just the topping on the insulting cake.

And no one can do that makeup better than the late Kevyn Aucoin so whoever did the makeup for that scene shouldn’t have even tried.

I admit I tuned in because if I was going to hate on this episode I figured I should hate on it in an informed way. I was never a big Michael Jackson fan-that’s my middle sister-but I do appreciate and love his music. Like Radiohead songs I don’t think the songs can be reinterpreted (meanwhile Radiohead slays at covers: Blondie’s “Union City Blues”, Carly Simon’s “Nobody Does It Better”, Bjork’s “Unravel” and Joy Division’s “Ceremony”? Forget about it! They can do it all). Them are some big pennyloafers to fill.

Take Darren Criss’ cover of “Wanna Be Starting Something’. Admirable turn but only Michael Jackson can get away with singing the lyrics “You’re a vegetable/they’ll eat off you/you’re a vegetable.” (Honestly? I had no idea that’s what he was saying all this time. Was he on the ‘scrips way back when? One sequined glove and a pet monkey I’m fine with but “you’re a vegetable?” That’s strange.)

As strange as ugmo Puck cuddling with Joker!Mouth

American Horror Story

Talk about ending not with a bang but a whimper. The finale was incredibly bold, I’ll give that to them because by the time Viv died you couldn’t help but wonder what would be the next step or where they could go. I’m somewhat relieved that Ryan Murphy and Co are going the anthology route from now one because fans of his previous shows know that he’s not the greatest at follow through. So standalone seasons are a nice twist.

And because Ryan is a troll and likes to cater to his fans before disappointing them soundly, he says that it may not be the end of fan favorites Jessica Lange and Evan Peters. That they may appear as other characters down the line.

Until then, Ryan’s female stars recreate his favorite scary films.

Connie Britton in “The Omen”

Kate Mara as “Carrie”

Sarah Paulson does “What Ever Happened to Baby Jane?”

Taissa Farmiga does “When a Stranger Calls”

Lea Michele in “Creature from the Black Lagoon”

Naya Rivera does “Susperia”

Heather Morris recreates Kim Novack Catherine Deneuve (thanks halfdutch! in “Repulsion”

Jayma Mays in “The Birds”

Dianna Agron in “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman”

“30 Rock”
*Jimmy Marsden is appearing in a arc on “30 Rock” where he plays Liz’s (Tina Fey) latest eccentric boyfriend, Criss whose dream is to open a gourmet hot dog stand.

Returning to his model roots for GQ

Jimmy was at Sundance in support of his film “Robot and Frank”

With costar Liv Tyler. They certainly not acting like they play siblings in the film

Justified
It’s only a few episodes in but the writing isn’t popping for me anymore. Mags Bennett is a tough act to follow though Mykelti Williamson and Neal Donoghue are more than capable as antagonists o’ the season.

I was really impressed however by Desmond Harrington in the 2nd episode. Or maybe the first. I don’t know, but he looked good, surprisingly.

It’s the hat. And the fact his character is a bad ass

Other Stuff

*Female Troubles: Heather Locklear recently checked into an out-patient rehab program after being hospitalized after mixing alcohol and prescription medicine after breaking she and longtime boyfriend Jack Wagner broke off their engagement.

*Jack, meanwhile was recently found by his 23-year old daughter. She came to him after a concert (how can anyone forget his one hit, “All I Need”? That they played on “General Hospital” all the damn time) and told him she was his daughter and he said he immediately knew it was true. He had a one-night stand with her mother and the woman notified him that she put the baby up for adoption. He sought legal advice to try to get the baby back but to no avail.

Wagner Kids

*That show that my niece and a few of her friends are keeping on the air called “Switched at Birth” is back for its second season. One of the stars Lucas “That Other Guy from ‘High School Musical’) Grabeel attended the winter TCAs in support of the show.

I played the quote/unquote lovechild of Clark Kent and Lex Luthor

Conner, what has your father told you about hanging out under that freeway? You only go there if you’re buying drugs or picking up some strange.

Seen on tasabians LJ
*Lex and Conner reunited

*Joe Manginello and Matt Bomer are taking their bromance public. Joe appeared in last week’s “White Collar” and the pair will appear in “Magic Mike”.

Is Channing Tatum the new Keanu Reeves? Meaning he’s the new “can’t act to save his life, but we find him endearing anyway?” actor

..They’ve also been hanging out at public appearances.

“He’s the better looking dude! No, he is! We both are.”

But make no mistake: Matt’s not leaving his family for the Bounty lumberjack
*His son, Kit let that big burly man take his daddy away

Matt, husband, father, actor, singer will appear in an upcoming episode of “Glee” as Blaine’s brother. The two will sing a Duran Duran song because that makes all kinds of sense. The question is what Duran Duran song will they brutalize?

”The Woman in Black”

A ghostly yarn based on a novel (and was later adapted into a play) about a ghostly woman in black (see!) whose presence foretells the death of children.

Daniel Radcliffe stars as Arthur Kipp, a widowed solicitor who goes to a small English town to settle the estate of a deceased woman. As soon as he gets to town the townsfolk are trying to rush him out. The only person who supports him in his endeavor to stay is Sam (the incomparable Ciarin Hinds). As the film progresses Arthur realizes the that the town is in the grips of paranoia over a supposed curse of the woman in black.

While Radcliffe is compelling to watch the film is really lightweight. It’s not scary, not even spooky. And since Radcliffe is mostly in scenes along the quiet doesn’t lend itself to foreboding, just boring.

It’s good to watch if you like old fashioned ghost stories.

Never forget: Radcliffe in “Extras”. At the 3:15 mark

Dan will next be seen as beat poet Allen Ginsburg in “Kill Your Darlings”. Radcliffe, a supporter of gay rights, recently did an interview with the UK’s mag “Attitudes” where he talks about criticism over not looking like Ginsberg:

Any criticism of me not looking right for the part, well James Franco is way too good looking to play Allen Ginsberg."

Ginsberg has previously been played by comedian David Cross in the 2007 film I'm Not There; and Franco, whose film dramatised the obscenity trial surrounding Howl.

and questioning his own sexuality in his teens.

There is that moment in your late teens when you ask yourself the question, ‘Am I?’ but I wasn’t," he said about questioning his sexuality. "Well, this year I have a talent crush on Ryan Gosling. I think he’s fantastic and, ahem, you know he’d be nice afterwards. He seems smart. If I was gay, I would go for a smart man."

So there you go, he thinks Gosling would be nice afterwards….

…he so would!

Daniel also completed very successful run on Broadway in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”

Jazz hands!

Daniel was succeeded in “How to Succeed…” Darren Criss for three weeks.

Celebrating with Angela Bassett

And Darren by the straight Jonas Brother, Nick.

Chronicle

Going in with absolutely no expectation works. I liked this film. Much more than “The Woman in Black”.

A “found footage” film in the vein of “Cloverfield” and “The Blair Witch Project”, “Chronicle” centers on three teens: cousins social outcasts Andrew (Dane DeHaan) and Matt (Alex Russell) who along with the popular jock in school Steve (gorgeous Michael B. Jordan)

.. find a crater. Being boys, they go inside the crater and develop telekinetic abilities.

But as the saying goes “with great power comes great responsibility” and as the film progresses we see which one of the boys let themselves get corrupted by the power.

A little film that came out of nowhere yet yanked the top spot of the Box Office from Daniel Radcliffe. The strength of the film lies in the writing. Written by Max Landis (son of director John Landis) it really does show teen boys the way I knew teen boys to be: a bit dopey, slyly giving of their emotions to each other. Unlike “Cloverfield” these people aren’t written to be clever, they’re written to be authentic.

If you don’t like the shaky cam device, this is not the film for you. And at a budget of $15 million, you know the FX weren’t done by ILM but it works in the same way “Attack the Block” works. You can have a high concept film on a low budget as long as the characters come across.

Song from the end credits: This Bright Flash

And the only other M83 song I know Don’t Save Us from the Flames

*Walking away from the film, other than thinking about how surprisingly good it was, was that Dane DeHaan is Leonardo DiCaprio’s love child with Brad Pitt. I am convinced of this.

Leo was a teen on the set of “Growing Pains” when he met the rakish Brad Pitt, who was visiting the set of “Head of the Class” to sneak some time in with then girlfriend Robin Givens. Robin was probably stuck on set because they couldn’t get Howard Hessman to do his line properly so Brad walked about the lot on the prowl and met young, virginal Leo and seduced him!

Weeks later, Leo finds himself pregnant on a stupid show and he doesn’t know what to do. He talks to his best friend Tobey Maguire. And Tobey tells him to give the baby up saying, “You don’t have much going for you, man. Your name is Leonardo. No one wants to see that name on a marquee. Leonardo is too stuffy unlike Tobey. Tobey is the name of the guy you want to hang out with. Leonardo you want to feed pizza and throw ninja stars with. Anyway, you ‘ll never get nominated for a bunch of Oscars or work with prestigious directors, but you may have a chance at being the center square on “Hollywood Squares” but you can’t do none of that with a baby.”

So Leo gives up his love child and goes on with his life. And one day, while rolling Cohibas on the naked torso of a model, he sees the commercial for “Chronicle” and he knows that’s his child.

Then he picks up the phone to call his lawyers as he plans to sue Brad Pitt for a kajillion dollars for emotional distress. It’s not cheap supporting Lukas Haas, you know.
