SV Alums, Game of Thrones, True Blood..

Jun 25, 2011 07:21

Comic Con is gearing up and with the announcements of panels and it feels so wrong not to see “Smallville” listed anywhere. But that’s not to say the “Smallville” peeps aren’t in the news.

SV Alums Doing Stuff:

*Tom Welling is suing MediaBlvd over the domain name TomWelling.com which MediaBlvd owns. The site’s owner is taking the news very well as he is a fan of Tom’s and only stated that he wished Tom and his team would’ve just contacted him. He’s just hopeful that it means an official site from Tom. I’m more upset by the news than he is. If MediaBlvd/TomWelling.com wasn’t actually a valid media site I would consider it cybersquatting but MediaBlvd is a legitimate entertainment site in my eyes and TomWelling.com has fulfilled a fan need for years. It never purported to be a legitimate site and if Tom and his people would’ve given the owner a chance I suspect he wouldn’t hold the domain hostage and try to get big money from Tom as actually cybersquatters do. A cease and desist seemed like a gentlemanly way to resolve this and if the owner didn’t heed it, then by all means purpose litigation. It just seems like an abrupt and harsh way to handle this.

*Sneaky Pete by name, Sneaky Pete by nature. Sam Jones III escaped living out “Oz” this week when he was handed down a one-year sentence for his Oxycontin bust. One year for 10,000 pills of Oxy. One year for the most ridiculous story since the SV episode “Fortune” (so says he, he was selling it to help out his friend who a Mexican cartel was after).

And either KAM 3 is looking for more publicity or Sam was having a real up and down week because some sites are saying that his girlfriend/sex tape partner Karissa Shannon has broken up with him and returned to the Playboy mansion now that Hugh Hefner’s fiancee left him at the altar. It sounds true because she’s a fame whore, but I don’t think you’re let back to the mansion after you leave. And she’s a lying lying who lies for fame.

But don’t fret if it truly is the end for KAM3. A few weeks ago KAM3 dropped their single “Vodka and Juice” (because “Gin and Juice” was already taken 18 years ago by Snoop Dogg).

No, it’s not Ke$ha, it’s Karissa

*Michael Rosenbaum’s “Ghild” screened at the Palm Spring Film Festival. He’s set to be in a Dax Sheppard film. Through it all he found time to make time for a night out with this life partner, Chris and comedian/ actor/director Mike Binder at Mike’s eatery Coney Dog

I’m not a hot dog fan but I am a fan of Binder’s so I have to hit the place up.

Speaking of gay marriage, the passage of the Same Sex Marriage Bill in New York last night (FANTASTIC NEWS and about fucking time!) prompted David Burtka and Neil Patrick Harris to get engaged.

*Erica Durance pilot “Saving Hope” began shooting on the 22nd. Daniel Gilles late of “The Vampire Diaries” (I mean, really late. They killed his character Elijah before the finale) plays her love interest. In a podcast Daniel says that he hopes to return to TVD even if “Saving Hope” goes to series as it’s “gonna be hard pressed to find a gig I like as much as the Vampire Diaries." Also in the cast is Carter “Hawkman” Hall, Michael Shanks. Shanks plays “the charismatic, inspiring and golden-tongued Chief of Surgery, Harris Coles (who) becomes a patient. Comatose, locked-in and unable to communicate that he's aware of everything around him, Coles is the voice and the eyes that guide viewers through the world of Saving Hope.

*Kyle Gallner’s film “Beautiful Boy” was released on June 3rd. This time Kyle isn’t killed…He kills other people. …Before committing suicide. “Beautiful Boy” is a story of a couple (Maria Bello and Michael Sheen) dealing with the after effects of their son’s (Gallner) school murder-suicide.

Does this look like the face of a killer?

*I endured “My Babysitter’s A Vampire” and it’s garbage production value to watch Ari “BAMF Regan Matthews” Cohen. Ari didn’t have a lot of scenes in the movie but he did look great in a bowling shirt and dressed up like a cowboy. He even danced around. And that made this lousy movie that made the TV version of “Weird Science” look like “Masterpiece Theatre” worthwhile.

*I went to a Q&A with my nemesis Steven DeKnight for “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena”. There are times when I have a hate-on for someone for only reasons I can fully understand, but then I see them in another light and my heart, she softens (like the hate-on I had for Timothy Olyphant after seeing “The Broken Hearts Club”. It was only after listening to him every day doing sports on a radio station I listened to did I finally like him.). So I wasn’t sure what I’d think of DeHackKnight after the Q&A. Maybe I’d have a new respect for him. Maybe he’d win me over.

Wrong.

I still hate him. He’s so phony. He was playing to the room and not like he was selling the show, but like he was selling himself. As if he was so entertaining. He’d make a “funny” comment and on the “punchline” he’d hit it hard like Fozzy the Bear as if it was actually humorous. He’s so fake!!! He’s faker than a Coach bag being sold in a hair salon. The kiss-up was because the Q&A was part of The Wrap’s Emmy push so he was “on” to sell himself to the voters. The thing is there’s a little chance that show will even get nominated.

They screened the penultimate episode of “Spartacus: Gods of the Arena”. It wasn’t my cuppa. I can’t even critique it fairly because I think my contempt for him will make it seem worse than it is. To me it was a low-budget, melodramatic bore with some decent acting. He explained the look of the show as being like a graphic novel come to life. It was borne out of Starz not having the finances to do the FX they really wanted. A lot of the sets are pratical sets with only the backdrops being greenscreened. He wouldn’t comment on how Andy Whitfield is doing out of respect for Andy’s privacy, but he said that it was with Andy’s blessing that they continued on with the show. DeKnight is aware that they may lose fans because people don’t want to see another person playing Spartacus but he hopes they give the actor a chance.

He talked about his work with Josh Whedon and working on “Buffy” and “Angel” no mention of “Smallville”, but no mention of that televised wreck called “Viva Laughlin” of which he was the showrunner. He said his writing inspiration is Shakespeare so that’s why the show writing has a Shakespearean bent to it. You know I had to roll my eyes hard and long at that. It reminded me of an old Onion article “Horrible Band Obviously Not Listening To Its Influences”.

SAN DIEGO- Puddle Of Mudd, a dreary nü-metal rock band that cites Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, and Metallica as influences, is obviously not listening to those influences. "Zep, Sabbath, Metallica, Maiden, Aerosmith-growing up, that's what we listened to, and that's what shaped our sound," said lead singer Wes Scantlin, whose mopey, monotone vocals in no way bear the stamp of Robert Plant, Steven Tyler, or his other idols. Scantlin, who made the comments during an interview Monday with Spin reporter Charles Aaron, failed to say which part of Puddle Of Mudd's atrocious new ballad "Drift & Die" resembles "When The Levee Breaks" or "Sweet Emotion."

The best thing about the night was as I was making my way up to the theater ( theQ&A took place at a movie theater) and I passed by Flea of The Red Hot Chili Peppers looking stymied by the automated ticket kiosk. His hair is turquoise now. After the screening Bruce Vilanch went into the theater across from ours looking every bit of Bruce Vilanch, a bit sloppy with his popcorn and drink in his arms.

*Alaina “Black Canary”, aka “The Woman Who Should’ve Married Oliver Queen”, attended the Superman Celebration last week with Sam Huntington and Brandon Routh.

Recap of the Q&A.

*Darling boy Brandon also presented at the Saturn Awards last night and tweeted his excitement over Mel Brooks being in attendance. Brandon is going to begin shooting a lacrosse film titled “Crooked Arrows” which he describes as being in the vein of “The Mighty Ducks” where he’ll play the coach for a high school lacrosse team.

*Amy Adams (she was in an ep. That counts as an alum in my book.) will have an eclectic cast to work with on Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel”. It was announced yesterday that Julia Ormond has been cast as Lara. Three unconfirmed rumors is that Henry Lennix of “Dollhouse”, Connie Nielsen (“Gladiator”) and Christoper Meloni who is free since he quit “Law and Order: SVU”.

ETA: Christopher Meloni confirmed his involvement in "Man of Steel" last week with NY Magazine. He could only tell them that he's playing a General (maybe Sam Lane?) And that he starts filming at the end of August and he'll shoot his part over the course of five months in locations including Chicago, Vancouver, and Edwards Air Force Base.

The confirmed cast stands at Amy Adams as Lois Lane, Henry Cavill as Superman, Kevin Costner as Jonathan, Diane Lane as Martha, Russell Crowe as Jor-El, Michael Shannon as Zod and Antje Traue as Faora.

Ricky Martin loves a Man of Steel

Either Elizabeth Berkley's husband (thanks mobiusklein is wearing a shirt with a grey snake or that’s a Bizarro shirt

*Good twin Aaron Ashmore joined Twitter.

*Justin Hartley’s still tweeting intermittently. He recently battled the flu and is thinking of taking up surfing saying it’s more his speed than golf. I love Justin and his deep thoughts.

He and wife Lindsay did the Soap Opera Awards in Las Vegas last week.

And was with their friend and former “Passions” costar Eric “Booster Gold” Martsolf.

Other attendees:

Adam Gregory (formerly of “90210” now on “Days of Our Lives”

Tuc Watkins (David Vickers, “One Life to Live”)

Michelle Stafford (“Young and the Restless”)

*If you want some Y&R dirt, squirm as you check out the video of Victoria Rowell calling in on Jamie Foxx’s satellite radio show while former costars Kristoff St. John and Darius McCrary were on. Victoria accuses Michelle and Melody Scott Thomas of being racist.

http://www.generationgossip.com/2010/08/gg-exposes-y-racist-allegations-not.html

Jonathan Jackson (Lucky, “General Hospital”)
*Jonathan won that night.

I remember when he won a Daytime Emmy for Best Young Performer and he cried during his acceptance speech . Now look at him with his own children. I feel incredibly old. But even moreso happy that he’s still acting.

Jonathan and Tony (and Genie Francis) Then

Jonathan and Tony Now

Shemar Moore (former Malcolm, “Young and the Restless”

Ageless Debbi Morgan (Angie Hubbard, “All My Children”)

Jill Larson (Opal Cortland, “All My Children”)

In recent days the announcement of “All My Children” alums have been made to my delight. Returning so far are Eva LaRue (Maria Santos. Eva said when she heard AMC was getting cancelled she cried for two days. She was married to former costar John Callahan who played her husband Edmund Grey.), Josh Duhamel (Leo. Who even then I couldn’t stand his boxy head), Kate Collins (! Janet “From Another Planet” Green-Dillon), Jennifer Bassey (Marion Colby) and recurring guest star Carol Burnett (Verla Grubbs).

~On the “Supernatural” side, Jared Padalecki, amazingly not driven away from Twitter by cray-cray fans, tweeted that he has the script for the new season. He tweeted that if anyone wanted it to give him their fax number. A fan indeed receive something from Jared: the cover page of the script with a note from him.

Jared gave an interview with Zap2It where he was asked if he’d ever leave his male spouse Jensen "Supernatual"? The answer is no.

*Jared also tweeted a couple of pics.

Of is brother impersonating him

A day at the dentist

*Jensen is directing another episode, written by the same team who wrote Jensen’s directorial debut “Weekend at Bobby’s”. The episode will be the first one shot, but will be the third episode aired.

Earlier this month Jensen and Danneel attended the Country Music Awards.

I love the outfit but the colors don’t work. The salmon top doesn’t go with the skirt. And while I get where the beige belt and how it comes into play in relation to the top, I still think it’s a stretch. Is it just so she could wear beige shoes?

Licking barbeque sauce off his lips

Did Misha knock up Jensen?

Inquiring minds want to know.

“And then I told Jared, “Jared, I didn’t say put it in my eyehole.”

*Misha has taken time out from cons and playing Words with Friends with fans, posting pictures of himself

in varying attire

…to head to Haiti with his Random Acts organization to build a community center. Young Papa Winchester, Matt Cohen and Jason “I’m Friends with Jensen So People Love Me” Manns were slated to go but Matt cancelled due to work

My Bad

No, Matt. Your pouty face and large purse won’t make up for your flakiness

…and Jason is doing more important stuff like hanging at the Viper Room in L.A with Jared. Probably still screwing SPN fans (does anyone else remember that SPN Secret years ago that he was sexing up fans at cons?)

Even Chad wouldn’t do that mess. Perhaps.
*At the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS charity event.

That’s the life jacket for his sinking career

Misha has tweeted two videos, one of him taking control of a commuter plane and another with a goat. But if you go to his Youtube page you’ll also see two videos of his baby West. One of West crawling and

I’m still enjoying watching the SPN fandom’s burning fury regarding Misha’s S7 status. tasabian pointed me to a link from a from a fan who attended a convention in Spain. It’s a great read for the tale of L’il Ian’s not-at-all surprising lack of professionalism, but also for Misha’s comments about TPTB and Castiel.

With Misha returning in a yet undetermined amount of episodes, Jim Beaver being made a regular (even though he was in more episodes last season than Misha) and the playing up of S7 being Sam and Dean’s Butch and Sundance season topped off with even more meta, fans are praying to evil Castiel that Sera will be pushed aside as showrunner and replaced by Ben Edlund or for Eric Kripke, who people are saying is returning in a larger capacity with the show.

I bet he’s loving this.

Meanwhile no one said anything about attention starved Sebastian Roche making good on his threat promise to fans that he’d tweet a picture of him in a Speedo.

Anthony Weiner has nothing on Baz

~Winter is coming. Winter is coming and I’m sure Winter will get here sooner than the return of “Game of Thrones”. Talk about a compelling series. Holy shiznit, son.

GoT finale talk.

I can and have watched the finale countless times already. Just the first fifteen or so minutes where the Stark family respond to Ned’s death alone is better and well crafted than most movies I’ve seen lately. The acting is off the wall. As much as a heinous little pillar of pig vomit Joffrey is, Jack Gleeson, the actor portraying Joffrey is scary good in that role. And the scenes between he and Sophie Turner (Sansa) would normally not be thought as compelling considering their ages, but they expertise in which they perform; they’re equal to their adult peers. Look back at the scene where Joffrey is sweet talking Sansa earlier and her nose was wide open for him. To now where he has barely contained fury at her insorbordinance and how she quickly went from being fearful and powerless to now ready for vengeance. Still powerless, but once he made her stare at her father’s decapitated head and Scepta (poor Scepta), it gave her focus. She just has to either kill him or survive to see him killed.

There were just too many good scenes to go through. The woman who played Mirri (the witch) was excellent. Another scene I watched over and over again is where she throws Dany’s mercy in her face by recounting the horror she saw at the hands of the Dothraki. “"Look to your khal and see what life is worth, when all the rest is gone."

Catelyn confronting Jamie and her exhalation of surprise and pain when he admitted to trying to kill Bran; Robert’s men bending their knee to him; Cersei sleeping with yet another family member and the final scene with Dany and the dragons. She looked scared and unsure, but once she saw the respect it commanded, she looked stronger. She looked like a eerily beautiful Venus De Milo. It was a powerful scene.

Some articles:

*Unless I missed a scene somewhere during the season (and it’s a possibility) there’s a spoiler in this interview with Sean Bean. Spoiler (?)

* GoT showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss discuss S2

*Jason talks shooting Khal’s death scene and Comic Con

But wait…

Khal Drago Lives!

“I can’t believe they killed my fine ass.”

*Jason was at the premiere of “The Devil’s Double” at the LA Film Festival. The film stars Dominic Cooper and it’s based on the true story of a man who was forced to become the body double of Saddam Hussein’s son Uday.

*They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so “Game of Thrones” cast showed be very proud of the Muppets Taking on GoT.

The Best

Until then, I leave you with

Emo Jon Snow

~With GoT’s season ending, it means the return of “True Blood”. I enjoy “True Blood” enough, but after GoT it’s going to be like following up sex with Jason Momoa with sex with Pee Wee Herman. It’ll probably be cool to talk about; a great story to have, but it’s not really satisfying.

The premiere was held last week at the Arclight.

Anna Paquin

Jessica Tuck who had a recurring role is now a regular
*Jessica was asked if she would return to “One Life to Live” (she was Megan who I hated because she was in the way of Max and Gabrielle reuniting) and she said she’d be thrilled to return…despite her character being dead.

Evan Rachel Wood looking stunning with her new haircut. I adore it and her outfit.

It reminds me of

Eva Marcille’s look at Neicy Nash’s recent wedding. Another sensational look.

Brandon and Courtney Ford
*Courtney will appear as Andy Bellefleur sister. It was recently announced that Katherine Helmond (“Who’s The Boss”, “Soap”) will play their grandmother. Also appearing is Scott Foley (“Scrubs”, “Felicity”).

Other happy couples:

Sam Trammel and his wife. They are expecting twins.

Carrie Preston and hubby Michael Emerson

Rutina Wesley and hubby Jacob Ishiel

We need to discuss those shoes.

“True Blood” meets “American Gothic”

Joe Mangiello is “True Blood”s Justin Hartley

Stephen, don’t even try to compete.

Deborah Ann Woll. Beautiful while glam and geeky
