Awards Season...STILL...

Jun 07, 2011 11:59

~This seemingly never-ending event called awards season is upon us STILL. The preliminary ballots for Emmys has gone up on the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences (ATAS) site

I forget which SV writer (maybe Al Septien) had tweeted that the CW/Warner Bros. was putting their support behind “Smallville” because I want to reread his tweet and see what he thinks support consists of. “Smallville” was submitted in the category of Outstanding Drama Series, but so was practically every show on the CW with the exception of “90210”. That means yes, even “One Tree Hill” was submitted. Even “Hellcats”.

Considering I don’t think Warner Bros/CW believes that any of their shows have a snowballs chance at even getting through this vetting process for final nominations, I think they should’ve put solid support around their ending show as a sign of support and thanks. USA also went the buckshot route and submitted all of their shows in varying categories.

“Smallville” was also submitted in the technical realm (editing for “Finale”, sound editing for “Dominion”, sound mixing for “Finale”. Surprisingly no submission for cinematography, a category Glen Winter has won in the past. SPN was submitted in cinematography though.

*Michael Rosenbaum for “Guest Actor in a Comedy Series” for “Breaking In”. Actually the entire cast submitted themselves. Alyssa Milano submitted for Guest Star for one ep and it’s been submitted in the Outstanding Comedy Series and for writing.

*USA submitted all their shows and individual actors from mostly all of them submitted including the entire cast of “White Collar”

Then

Eliza, boyfriend Rick Fox and his daughters

*Aly Michalka, Ashley Tisdale, Gail O’Grady and Robbie Jones (the nerves) submitted themselves for “Hellcats”.(They could all submit themselves and Tom didn’t throw his hat in the ring?)

*Gale didn’t submit but then again he’s a serious theatre actor.
Gale at the Young Playwright’s

* “Supernatural” was submitted for Cinematography for “Frontierland” and Editing for “The French Mistake”, Sound Mixing for “Live Free and Twihard”. Amazingly not in the writing category. I’m really surprised by that because the Ben Edlund stuff, especially “The Man Who Would Be King” were great.

No actor submission is surprising too. I would think Sebastian Roche would be all over that.

Speaking of Baz..he tweeted Jared about not following him and Jared had to explain to his ‘stud’ that he was still figuring it out. One thing he got the hang of is

tweeting pictures

Riding girl!Gen

*Unsurprisingly nearly everyone in “Game of Thrones” submitted themselves including Kit Harrington who plays Ned’s bastard son Jon Snow and

This hot piece

If they had a category for best scene it’d be this

The show was also submitted in Casting, Opening Titles and Writing and Outstanding Drama.

*The cast of “Shameless” submitted themselves and the several episodes submitted for Writing.

I’m so glad that Joan Cusack submitted.

*The “Glee” cast submitted themselves (even Darren Criss trying to be fancy by using his middle name ‘Everett’ , Dot Marie Jones, Max Adler and John Stamos)

*Idris Elba submitted for “Luthor” and for Guest Star in a Comedy Series for his stint in “The Big C”.

*Seth Green’s “Robot Chicken” was submitted in the animation field.

Seth tweeted this pic of he and Michelle Trachtenberg

*His Royal Fierceness rightly was submitted for his performance in “Cinema Verite”.

*The cast of “Community” submitted individually.

Donald’s currently on tour with his music as Childish Gambino

*Seeing Jonny Lee Miller’s name for his arc on “Dexter” nearly made me faint in ecstasy. He was so damn good. He deserves to be officially nominated.

Surprise contenders to throw their hats in the ring: Leighton Meester, Chace Crawford, Matthew Settle and Kelly Rutherford (“Gossip Girl”), Alan Ritchson (“Blue Mountain State”),

Alan with his “Blue State Mountain” costars Ed Marinaro and Darrin Brooks, with guest star Chad Ochocinco

Terry Crews (“Are We There Yet?), Joey Lawrence and Melissa Joan Hart (“Melissa and Joey”), Paul Wesley, Nina Dobrev and Ian Somerhalder (“The Vampire Diaries”)

, Sophia Bush (“One Tree Hill”), Summer Glau and the lead guy from “The Cape”, American!Tom Hardy, Logan Marshall Green for “Dark Blue, Paget Brewster and Matthew Gray Gubler (“Criminal Minds”),

*It’s been officially announced that Paget is returning to “Criminal Minds”

Rejoice!

But Thomas Gibson’s contract talks are going nowhere. I could easily see him walking away from the show. Which I would absolutely hate because I love Hotch and if Thomas leaves, who’d post Twitpics of Shemar?

My word

Sam Witwer, Meaghen Rath and Mark Pellegrino for “Being Human” as well as the many individual episode submission for writing and technical. Lee Thompson Young (“Rizzoli & Isles”), Sean Faris (“The Lost Valentine”), Maggie Q and Lyndsey Fonseca (“Nikita”), Serinda Swan (“Breakout Kings”), Kevin Corrigan submitting for his role in the episode of “Community” where he plays the acting teacher versus the episode that introduced him as the fake teacher. Maybe that was S1? Hayden Panettiere for “The Amanda Knox Story”

* Here’s Hayden recreating horror damsels in distress.

Jamie Lee Curtis in Halloween

Carrie

As Drew Barrymore’s character in “Scream”

Scarlett Johannson for W Magazine as

Buster Keaton

Giulietta Masina

Marlena Dietrich

Sandra Bernherdt

Nicholas Brendon (guest star, “Private Practice”) , Joe Jonas (“Hot In Cleveland”), Brian Austin Green (“Desperate Housewives”), Ezra Miller (“Royal Pains”. The ep he submitted was his worst performance) Henry Winkler (“Royal Pains” Another bad performance. I came to the conclusion that much like Keanu Reeves, people still love Winkler despite his non-ability to act. We love him because he was The Fonz).

*Henry is doing quintuple threat: playing Mark Feurstein’s dad on “Royal Pains” and has a regular role on “Children’s Hospital”, he has two films slated to come out, he’s a children’s author (but has recently released a book about his hobby of fly fishing) and executive producer (“Macgyver” and the most recent incarnation of “Hollywood Squares”.) it’s no wonder he

throws his weight around the set of “Children’s Hospital

Ken Marino should be honored to have The Fonz on his back

Rob Corddry, you deserve this for “Hot Tub Time Machine”

*Back when his “Hollywood Squares” was on the air, it taped not too far from where I worked. Every so often I’d see him walking by in his blazer with the patches on the elbow and he’d walk with his head up as if savoring the air and taking everything in. He always just looked like he was so fulfilled.

*Know who’s looking for some monetary fulfillment? His “Happy Days” costars.

Marion Ross, Anson Williams, Donny Most and Erin Moran are suing CBS for a merchandising they feel is owed to them. Winkler is not included in the lawsuit as he had a separate agreement with the network.

But all is not lost for “Smallville”. The show has several nominations for the Leo Awards, a British Columbia award for excellence in television and film. Michael Daingerfield (Godfrey) and Mackenzie Gray (clone! Lex) were nominated for “Supergirl” and “Lazarus”. Kevin Fair (Lazarus) and Glen Winter (Shield) were nominated for Direction. The show was nominated for Best Dramatic Series, Glen Winter for Cinematography for “Abandoned”, James Philpott for Best Production Design for “Shield”, Melanie Williams for Costume Design for “Warrior”

*Yet another awards show has been created. The first annual Critic Choice Awards (which is selected by the Broadcast Television Journalists Association) will be anded out on June 20th in L.A and aired on the 22nd on ReelzChannel (yeah, I don’t have that channel either) and livestreamed on VH-1.

The awards seems low rent but I have to applaud the association’s choices.

Clothed Blake Lively

*Reese Witherspoon created a tiny firestorm…I guess that’s just a bonfire…. With what she said during her acceptance speech for Lifetime Achievement at the awards show. People felt these comments

"I get it, girls, that it's cool to be a bad girl but it is possible to make it in Hollywood without doing a reality show.
"When I came up in this business, if you made a sex tape, you were embarrassed, And if you took naked pictures of yourself on your cell phone, you hide your face, people! Hide your face!”
"For all the girls out there, it's totally possible to be a good girl and I'm going to try to make it cool."
…were “slut shaming” young women who choose to take pictures and that this was also directed at Blake Lively who had has a series of leaked nudes recently
