Gale Harold, Jumping the Broom, FlyBoy...

~ The CW has found its new president. Taking over for Dawn “Clueless Hater” Ostroff is Mark Pedowitz who during his time as head of ABC Studios brought to the net “Lost”, “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Ugly Betty”, “Criminal Minds” and “Kyle XY’ among others. Another person who left too late is its head of marketing strategy Rick Haskins, who if he was the one in charge of promotion for “Smallville” needs to be sent to the Phantom Zone.

With these changes, it’s still business as usual at the CW. They’ve renewed five series “90210” (yay!), “Gossip Girl” (don’t care), “The Vampire Diaries” (no surprise), “America’s Next Top Model” and “Supernatural”.

Pardon me while I dredge up an old Jensen quote.

InterviewerStavrou: Also, you don’t want to go too long? Smallville is now going into its ninth season, and it’s dropped off a bit.

Jensen: Well Al (Gough) and Miles (Miller), the creators, aren’t even there anymore That’s one thing … (dawnybee: Kripke’s only still around because doesn’t know how to let go and let Gamble and Singer do their job.)

I love Tom (Welling). I think he’s got a great thing going on and I know that he’s made the most of his situation (which is great) but at the same time, he and Allison Mack are the only two left from the original cast. So, do I envy that aspect of it? No. (dawnybee: And SPN has killed offto kill off Jo, Ellen, Rufus, John Winchester, Ash, pretty much everyone the Winchesters have breathed around.)

You know, I don’t want the show to change so much that it’s like it’s taken a complete different life of its own, which that one kind of has. (dawnybee: SPN seasons 1 to 3 is Sam and Dean on the road chasing creatures, 4 through 6 angels, devils, apocalypse. That’s no different than SV season 1 through 4 Clark and meteor mutants and 5 through 10 bigger threats. Dummy.)

You know, they still get three-four million people watching every week … that’s business then it turns into a business. (dawnybee: How much do you get paid to go to Cons? I mean, it costs a lot to keep you fed Babar.)

Stavrou: was it because of your work on season four of Smallville that they put you on Supernatural - because it was the same network?

Jensen: I wouldn’t say that entirely. Director David Nutter,, who directed the pilot of Supernatural, knew me from Dark Angel so I would probably say it was more because of Dark Angel. (dawnybee: Or maybe it’s because you lost out to Tom for Clark Kent and Nutter, who directed the SV pilot was so connected to the show that he’s the one who showed Al and Miles Tom’s headshot. Maybe he felt bad for you, runner up.)

I’m just saying that this interview was done during SV’s season eight, SPN is going into its seventh season, I wonder if Jensen still feels that his reupping for a 7th season is just business or maybe, like Tom, he enjoys what he does. Next time he opens his mouth about “Smallville”or any other show, I hope he’d just stuff a piece of cheesecake instead.

Anyhoo, bubble shows include “One Tree Hill” (that still on?), “Nikita” and “Hellcats”. Seeing that the buzz on “Secret Circle” pilot is very good and considered a lock for pickup, I think Gale doesn’t have to worry about where his character Julian is headed.

Somehow Gale was asked to participate in the NYFest celebrity soccer game. As Gale fans know, Gale played soccer in his youth, so it’s not crazy it’s just crazy that Gale was asked to participate in something so…mainstream and high profile. Other players included John McEnroe, Andrew Shue, Ethan Hawke, “The Daily Show”s Wyatt Cenac and John Oliver.

While Gale was kicking balls (tee hee hee), his “Secret Circle” cast mate was representing his movie at the Tribeca Film Fest. Thomas Dekker was on hand for the film “Angel’s Crest” which costars Jeremy Piven and Kate Walsh. When he wasn’t doing interviews, this fierce as hell manchild was giving good face in glamour shots.

Not from his Twitter, but someone posted Shemar’s back tat.

*Also at Tribeca was Vera Farmiga promoting her directorial debut in the film “Higher Ground” which includes younger sister, Taissa who was just cast in Ryan Murphy’s pilot, “American Horror Story’. The pilot for FX stars “Friday Night Lights” Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott as a couple who move their family from Boston to a haunted San Francisco home in an attempt to rebuild their family after a miscarriage and affair.

Also there, the sultry Eva Mendes for the film “Last Night”.

The film was directed by Henry Winkler’s son, Max.

~ “Jumping the Broom”

I thoroughly enjoyed this film, while not perfect, I really did love what it presented. I think there were too many developments that were dropped or not played out as well as it should’ve been, but overall it was a really good film.

Directed by Salim Akil (“Girlfriends) and written by Elizabeth Hunter (“The L Word”, “ER”, “The Fighting Temptations”) and Arlene Gibbs. It stars Paula Patton as Sabrina, who commits to celibacy right before meeting Jason (Laz Alonso). After a whirlwind courtship, Jason proposes to her and they decide to quickly get married as they prepare to leave the country.

The wedding weekend comes with tension already building due to Jason’s mother (Loretta Devine) angry over never being introduced to Sabrina and her family. Sabrina’s mother (Angela Bassett)is dealing with her own issues over never meeting Jason’s family, planning the wedding and her husband’s (Brian Stokes Mitchell) possible affair.

As the two families converge on the house (Jason’s mom, his smooth talking uncle (Mike Epps), cousin (DeRay Davis), his mother’s best friend (Tasha Smith) and Sabrina’s globetrotting aunt (Valerie Pettiford) the tension threatens the entire wedding.

I love ensembles and the movie really worked the best for me when the entire cast or half of them were together in one scene. There were so many elements I loved, but I also think it was disjointed in that the way a movie begins IMO should inform the feel of the entire film. The opening is so light and played for laughs that as the movie goes on and you realize that this is actually a drama with comedic elements, it’s a bit jarring. And being produced by TD Jakes, I think the religious undertones were frivolously thrown in.

I think Paula Patton should be America’s next sweetheart. She can do comedy and drama and she’s so bubbly, beautiful and perfect and I loved everything about her. Loretta Devine was great because it’s hard to play such a sh*t stirrer character and still invoke empathy for her. I really loved Tasha Smith’s wide eyed and awed take as Shonda, who is taken by the sights of Martha’s Vineyard and taken aback by the Sabrina’s young cousin Sebastian’s attempt to woo her.

Cast and crew pic, including Robin Thicke, whose song “Magic” is used in the film (Paula cowrote it with him, just like his mom and dad cowrote the “Facts of Life” and “Diff’rent Strokes” theme)

* I went to the premiere but I didn’t get to see the one person I wanted to and that was Paula. I am crazy about her. I saw Hosea Chanchez and Wendy Raquel Robinson together (Malik and Tasha of “The Game”), Gary Dourdan was there but left quickstyle after the film ended as did Robin Thicke (he put on his shades like a “Deal with It” gif), Eva Marcille, Sharon Leal from “Hellcats”, Niecy Nash (who goes to everything and anything)

But I would’ve loved to see this gorgeous woman

*I couldn’t get over how great Pooch looked. He looked even better close up. I told him how much I loved that suit. He’s so down to earth, he has an accent, like Brooklyn or general New York.

Comedian Affion Crockett

Brian Stokes Mitchell
*I was really excited (dare I say stoked?) to talk to him. He came out afterwards, like practically the last of the cast to exit the theater and he was pushing his father in his wheelchair (I know it’s his dad because Mike Epps came over and Brian introduced him to his dad, mother, sister and wife. Mike gushed over how great their son was in the film) and I didn’t know how to approach him because he was tending to his parents. His sister kept smiling at me and saw me there with my camera and she got Brian’s attention for me. I told him how much of a fan I was and did the obnoxious thing of telling him his credits (I really did love him as Cam Winston on “Frasier”), he was very sweet and told me, “Bless you, thank you that.”

Babyface
*I took this picture accidentally. I was trying to snap Boris again and Babyface walked right past. He was there to support his ex-wife Tracey who is the producer of the film.

Mr. Kodjoe

Eva Marcille and Gary Dourdan

Tasha Smith (with Michael Jai White)
*I congratulated the two of them on their recently announced series. TBS, keeping up with their terrible tradition of bringing Tyler Perry movies to TV, has greenlit a spinoff of “Why Did I Get Married” titled “For Better or for Worse” starring Tasha and Michael as their WDIGM characters.

*Tasha’s Alter Ego photo shoot. “Attack of the 50ft Woman”.

*This would be where my picture of DeRay would be. His girlfriend saw me waiting and asked if I wanted a picture and I said I didn’t want to bother him because he was talking to someone and she said, “Get up there! Go for it.” She called out to him and he took the picture. I told him I followed him on Twitter and he said, “I need to stop cussing then.” I said, “I’m not that young.” Girlfriend, super nice. Can’t take pictures for shite.

Romeo Miller

*I didn’t want to get too close to Romeo because I found him so attractive in the film that I was afraid I would be buried under a jail somewhere. It’s sick and sad because I remember when he was a kid! It’s the same thing with Bow Wow, how dare they get grown and sexy?

Captain Jack Sparrow is back in this prequel starring with Geoffrey Rush as Barbossa, Greg Ellis returning as Lieutenant Groves (you know, the “That's got to be the best pirate I've ever seen.” Guy).

In this film, Jack is forced into helping his ex fling Angelica (Penelope Cruz) find the Fountain of Youth with Blackbeard (Ian McShane) before Barbossa and his men find it.

It’s seriously more of the same. If you loved the first one, you’ll love this one too. I’m not the biggest fan of the POTC films, I think they’re too long and not that interesting (if I want to see extended swordfights it’s the one with naked men french kissing each other), but it is rollicking fun and the score by Hans Zimmer always enhances the action. There’s a great sequence involving mermaids and the cast is really great. Although there’s a B-plot involving a young man aboard the ship (Sam Claflin) that I didn’t get the point of.

There are callbacks to the other films that is very neat and I’m sure there were more less obvious ones, but I haven’t seen any of the other films enough to have them committed to memory, so one may want to see the first one again prior to seeing ‘On Stranger Tides’. Stick around until the very end for a very minor scene.

I saw it at the El Capitan, a Disney owned theatre and the pull of the El Capitan is that they have someone playing a Disney songs on a Wurlitzer beforehand and before they pull back the curtains, the screens light up in various montages and it brings the wonder and fantasy of Disney and I may hate the House of Mouse, but it reminds me of the wonder of Disneyland, it really enhances the experience.

In the run-up to the film’s opening, the El Capitan will hold a marathon of the POTC films as well as display costumes from the film.
