Surprisingly, traffic in LA didn’t seem that bad considering the huge radius that was being shut down downtown for Michael Jackson’s funeral. Our network is running really slow today so I couldn’t watch the service so I listened to it. I don’t understand why it needed to be such a spectacle. It became a tribute concert rather than a funeral/homecoming. And the fact that it cost the taxpayers of L.A big bucks when California is strapped for cash is really ridiculous. That said. I am so glad fans had this chance to be there. I get wanting to be a part of something like this. If it is still there when I get off of work, I’ll take my niece to the Staples Center and we’ll sign the memorial board they have there.
I was good this entire time until one of Michael’s brother’s spoke and then when his daughter spoke! I started to cry and my boss chose that moment to walk out of his office (he was listening it to it as well) and he asked who was speaking and I could barely say, “His daughter.” He told me that’s why he’s been holed up in his office because he had been crying on and off. He went back into his office for a few minutes and then walked back out with his shades on to hide his red eyes.
We’re so ridiculous.
Hearing those who knew him talk about him really breaks my heart. Will.i.Am posted a video about his friendship with Michael and that on Father’s Day Michael would send him a card because he remembered that Will didn’t have a dad.
We were discussing it all at work and some said it shows how messed up our priorities are that his is such a huge event. And my response is if this type of display was going on for the funeral of Paris Hilton I’d agree, but you can’t argue the uniting force of music. And Michael Jackson’s music is transgenerational and transcend language. And just seeing the international response to his death shows me that this is commonality amongst us all. It’s worth a traffic snarl or an inundation of coverage for this day just to see people across L.A and the world sharing this. At least to me.
Pictures from
around the world Although I was cheesed off last night that Hardball wasn’t on because they were showing the Martin Bashir/Michael Jackson interview.
