this christmas

Dec 29, 2012 10:53

i would have to say this christmas was one of the most satisfying. it was definitely the most relaxing. the only thing i didn't get done on time that i wanted to get done was sending the cards out... on time. i had them signed, but TWD didn't have time to sign them. i wrote a holiday letter to go with some of the cards, but we didn't get it printed (and some copies got printed upside-down when it DID get printed. oh well. lol)

i got them stamped, sealed, and finally mailed them yesterday. so happy new year to everyone who receives a holiday card from us.

i even had time to bake cookies and send some to my dad. apparently, i bake great snickerdoodles. TWD's sister bakes up a lot of cookies so we have cut back tremendously on our baking. we just don't have time and we really don't need 8 billion cookies. however, she asked me if i was baking my snickerdoodles. she said she could bake them. she even said she was GOING to, but didn't have cream of tartar (an ingredient that is key to making them) and if she didn't have time to buy that, there wouldn't be aaaaany snickerdoodles this year. .... pause .... so was i maybe going to have time to make any? (hm. was that a hint? lol) so i said i would try to find time to make them. "oh good! because i just don't think i'll have time." ;)

the other thing i sneakily did was hide TWD's main present behind a bookcase. he wanted this camera scope tool thingy. you can poke holes in your wall and see what's inside of it. or look inside narrow areas or up high or under furniture or whatever. it's pretty cool. it has a light on it and everything. although looking at Gabby in a dark room reminds me of watching one of those Ghost Hunter shows--all you see is two pair of EYES glowing back at you. mainly, we need to poke a hole in our hall closet wall to find our watermain shutoff. yes, we believe the geniuses who built the place DRYWALLED over the shutoff. other residents have said they have a panel where the shut off is, but it's not the same panel which means other residents in the past have had to bust through the wall to get to the shutoff. awesome, no?

anyway. bookcase. so TWD hinted that's what he really wanted. that's ALL he really wanted. it's a little pricey, but i got for him and a few other things too. everything ELSE was under the tree. after christmas was over, stockings were opened, and we were standing by the tree looking at the cats rolling around on their new scratchy boxes and catnip toys (oh lordy... more on THAT later...) i says to him, "so... did you have a good christmas?" "yes. i did." "did you get everything you wanted?" "yeah. ... well, there was one thing i was hoping for, but that's okay." "oh. hm." and i gave him a hug.

avid viewers of A Christmas Story can probably already tell where this is going.

then i said, "sayyy... what's that over there?"
"what?"
"over there... behind the bookcase."
"HUH?"
"yeah... go check it out."
"WHAT? what did you do??!" TWD pulls out a present and his eyes are GLOWING.
"i don't know... maybe Santa left it. no tag. ... you know, i thought i heard him come by last night before bed. he was going up the other side of the street."
"YOU GOOF!"
so he opened his present and was laughing and saying things like, "is it?! is it!?" and then "YES!!!!" as he saw what i got. "i was hoping!"
"well, i had one when i was little girl."

(we've seen that movie a few times.)

what my baby wants my baby gets. and my baby wanted an official Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock, and this thing which tells time. ... or maybe just a lighted camera scope tool thingy--whatever.

as for me, i got clothes, a silver Pooh necklace, Brave and New Year's Eve DVDs, and HELLO KITTY FOOTIE PAJAMAS to add to my leopard print PJs. the best present though is knowing we aren't in the same place with Azrael this year as we were last year. her not having pneumonia? and reversing her diabetes? Best. Gift. Evar.
